This low ratio weekend trip (3 crew plus Lou) was originally planned as a Channel hop mile builder, but French destinations were a COVID no go so we needed to adapt. Comms from Lou at Nomad were excellent prior to the date, and she coordinated a collective decision over the phone on an alternative plan that meant we could go sailing anyway and find a way to build some miles in and around the Solent. Absolutely the right decision, excellently organised, and we had two and a half very full and fabulously enjoyable days sailing including a full Round the Island trip, which had a bit of everything. Lou is a very experienced sailor and instructor, with a brilliant teaching style, and great company. and she is a great ambassador for Nomad's approach to their business. If you're thinking of trying out sailing on your own or with the family, or are more experienced and looking to grow your experience and qualifications, don't hesitate to contact Nomad to see if they can help. You won't regret it.

Great, thank you so much for the positive review, it is a shame we cannot make France at the moment - next year hopefully !!! Really glad you enjoyed the weekend and the sail around the island - have done that a few times of late and it has been fun.

We have been lucky of being able to do the Day Skipper practical course during the first week after the lockdown, as a family of five, all together, during our only holiday in July.
Despite all the uncertainties about whether we would be able to do it or it would have to be postponed, Jim and Lou have been pragmatic and flexible and made it possible.
Our instructor Matt Stiles has been a class act. He is very experienced, reads well the audience and challenges you constructively. At the end of the day we were simply exhausted by the intensity of the learning.
Absolutely recommendable.

Nomad’s support for the offshore/yachtmaster theory was brilliant – there was always going to be some things that needed extra explanation and Jim was on hand for that, and with a very quick turnaround.
I had only recently competed the day skipper theory with Nomad and I thought I’d do something useful during lockdown, so I took the next level of theory online.
It proved a good idea. It wasn’t as big a jump as I feared and I was able to build on the day skipper theory - and it uses the same training charts and almanac. Due to the lockdown there were few external distractions to completing the course quickly.
I still have to do my day skipper practical, and I’ll probably never advance to coastal skipper, but there’s no harm in having more theoretical knowledge than strictly necessary.

My wife and I had an amazing day sail today with our two kids. James was a consummate professional and a great skipper. The process was slick and streamlined throughout (thanks Lou), and the price very reasonable.
I would recommend Nomad Sailing to anybody - the acrobatic Spitfire display and the simultaneous ‘fly-by’ by two hovercraft were the cherries on top.

I took the Day Skipper practical course at the end of September/beginning October during five days of pretty challenging weather. I thought carefully before choosing to do it with Nomad and have no doubt I made the right choice. Matt was an outstanding instructor, providing the right level of empowerment but always being there to offer calm support when needed. He worked very well around the weather to fit all of the curriculum in. Most important, at the end of five days I felt truly confident to step up and skipper the boat which is what it should be about. I didn't want to be given the ticket unless I was up to it. This course was everything I wanted it to be and for me will be a highlight of 2020.

My family had the most amazing week onboard a fantastic boat with an out of this world instructor. My husband, eldest daughter and I all achieved our competent crew qualification while my 9 year old and 5 year old daughters were involved and engaged completing their junior sailing certificates.
We have never sailed before and were not sure quite what to expect, from the first email Lou was super helpful and answered all my silly questions and reassured me that they could cater for us as a family with young children who also hoped to start on our sailing journey.
Our instructor James was a ray of sunshine from the moment he met us at our car, he was kind, patient, and a generally lovely person to spend time with - but his knowledge, skill and ability to teach and coach was what really made our trip special. James adapted to the needs of our family and made sure that the 5 year old, the 39 year old and the rest of us in between had an unforgettable experience.
If you are considering learning to sail and have young children, I can't recommend this company enough.
Thank you James and Nomad Sailing for our first sailing trip - it will definitely not be our last!

With minimal formal boating experience, I set out to achieve my Day Skipper license with Nomad Sailing commencing with Comp Crew. From Day 1 I was hooked. The highly knowledgeable tutors ensure that there is fantastic balance between, enjoyment, challenge and excellent real world tuition. I conducted my Day Skipper theory via the online Nomad platform which was excellent and Lou or Jim were always on hand to add some guidance via phone/Zoom surrounding any points of confusion. I'm pleased to say that I successfully passed my Day Skipper exam after 5 days on the water in some pretty tricky conditions under the tutelage of Jake B who was extremely knowledgeable, calm and an excellent teacher. I couldn't recommend Nomad and their team highly enough and I will be using them going forward for personal charters and mile builders. Excellent school!

Just back from a fantastic 5 days doing our competent crew as a family with Nomad Sailing.
Our skipper Matt was brilliant and had all 3 kids (14, 12 and 10) engaged and involved from the minute we arrived at the marina.
Great varied sailing, (helped by lovely weather) with 5 different overnight stops - we learnt loads, had yummy (and plentiful food) and all thoroughly enjoyed it - can't recommend enough!

I would highly recommend Nomad Sailing to anyone wanting to get out on the water! A friend and I went to do a 5 day Day Skipper course. We are relatively novice sailors and learned so much. The Nomad team was extremely friendly and professional. It was an excellent learning experience. Our group was great fun and we worked together to navigate our way around the Solent and round to Cowes. It was a planned as a holiday and it was a lovely relaxing week. Our instructor, Jake, was brilliant! He is a great coach, very kind and patient and ensured that we all gained the skills and confidence we needed; we all made great progress and passed the course!

We took a 5-day Day Skipper Practical course on the Solent with Jim. The instruction was excellent and we had a lot of practice on navigation, tides, boat handling, launching, mooring and sailing.
The boat was in very good shape and we were well-catered for. There were also opportunities to have local food at each of the marinas we visited.
I'm taking the Day Skipper Theory course with Nomad Sailing too, and it is quite comprehensive. The knowledge I gained with Nomad's courses prepared me well for a one-week flotilla sail in the Greek Ionian, covering hundreds of nautical miles and with up to force 5 winds.
I highly recommend Nomad Sailing for the Day Skipper Practical and Theory courses!

Hi, would it be possible to just got out for a few hours of sailing as a passenger with an experienced captain and crew?I'm a Canadian who is in Portsmouth for a conference and I would like to go on Thursday, June 27, 2019.

Hi Tonya
Thank you for your enquiry, I'm afraid neither boat will be available for that sort of trip on 27th June as they will both be being prepared for the Round the Island Race at the weekend. I would recommend someone else but unfortunately I can't think of any other company that offer a few hours sailing as we pretty much all do minimum 2 day courses. I hope you find something.
Kind regards
Lou

Is this available for June 16th? There is 3 of us. 2 adults and 1 child, is this a possibility?
Thanks a million,
