Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had such a great weekend gaining some valuable experience around sailing a yacht. Very professionally organised and Nick, the skipper added enormously to this with his great knowledge , clear communication and fun company. Would definitely sail with Commodore again in the future.

Wondering who would take on six people who were strangers to each other, and head off in a 44' bark around Britain with just a sketch of a plan - and then meeting Ed of the Royal Artillery.
The gratitude to Commodore and Tom for letting us just go and explore on our Emerald Star.
Hypnotising lobsters.
Guiding the boat with huge trepidation through the disingenuous Goodwin Sands off Dover, scene of a multitude of wrecks.
Partying with the whole town in Wick on Herring Queen Day, all of them trollied while dressed as cows, Mexicans, traffic cones.
Skippering the crossing to Pentland Firth then cycling the Orkneys to sit on a replica of (probably) the world's first indoor toilet, 5000 years old.
Red Arrows over our heads at Peterhead marina.
Night club in Lowestoft, and the bouncers with no clue as to how to treat Dr Dave.
Eating cod landed by the trawler alongside.
Hailing passing Scottish fishermen with requests for lobsters.
Day drinking in the most welcoming Suffolk pub.
Puffins in Mull, plus dolphins, seals and otters everywhere, with a whale cameo off Skye.
Seeing a teary engagement in a packed Oban pub.
Diving in sea lochs, then finding jellyfish in with you.
Helming the boat tight in alongside a Norfolk wind farm at night, all ranks of looming monstrous Tripods, red lights, whirring, spray and gusting winds.
Drawing whisky from the barrel at Laphroaig, and self-serve quadruple measures.
Entering Islay pub, Steph getting praise for great hair by local scally.
Joining all of Islay at their annual fair, and betting on pig racing.
Introducing an Italian and a German to east coast Spoons, which didn't go well.
Going to Northern Ireland when you wanted to go to Scottish mainland.
Going to Isle of Man when you wanted to go to Dublin.
A brilliant adapted Brassed Off play in Aberystwyth, the audience reliving Welsh mining history.
Getting the elbow from Tobermory - henceforth referred to in ripe language - but selecting a fallback bay with its own distillery (and arriving there by tender at 10am)
Passing the Doom Bar off Padstow - four times as forgot something - but mooring right by the pub in the heart of the biscuit-tin town.
Trailing a fishing line for 1500 miles and catching just seaweed (and almost a seagull) - God was testing me.
Rounding Lands End during the most golden of sunsets - then getting towed into Newlyn by the Mayflower trawler and its cheery crew at 1am.
Living life at 30⁰, including cooking full English for seven with Stornoway black pudding the size of a missile
Drinking in Kirkwall with a guy who'd built his boat using the old Bournemouth ballroom floor.
Eating the freshest of ice cream in Penzance, 30 mins old, at Jelbert's. And buying the t-shirt.
Opening doors to find Dave always behind them.
Trying not to catch someone on the toilet.
Mooring under an e-normous 50m yacht so that we looked like a toy.
Getting the boat into a seemingly impossible Aberystwyth berth, then hunkering down for the cyclone.
Trying to pronounce Pwllheli and Croabh.
The peacefulness of sunrise at sea, and the general feeling of living a spaceman's life, the world continuing silently at the edge of vision.
Spending 24hrs or more either eating, sleeping or sailing, round and round in 4 hour satisfying bites.
Our valiant little donkey plodding away for hours and hours, until suddenly it didn't.
Sharing a 3m² cabin with Dr Dave, contrary to the laws of physics.
The other-worldliness of Iona and Fingal's Cave (and playing both Mendelssohn and Pink Floyd on approach, like a posh Apocalypse Now).
The millpond of a North Sea, and the thump thump thump into headwind off the Welsh coast for houuuuurs.
Endless chocolate biscuits (and Lidl's superior fruit and nut) on the night watches, and even more cups of tea (or soup for a certain person).
Video sesh of helming followed by unfortunately-not-forgettable gybeing.
Going aground (slightly) in Whitby harbour, and being rescued by a pirate.
Drifting conversations between Conrad, Bridget and me on watch as we bobbed along, gazing out.
The understated approach of the experienced skippers, having the burden of responsibility 24/7 but allowing us to act as skippers for the passage each day, all with with a real deftness and generous with their knowledge. And Steph somehow signing up for a second go with us :)
And sharing it all with open, easy-going people who you know have your back (my only real argument was when someone forgot to buy muesli...). We all ofc annoyed each other at some point over 50 days, but then you don't go on this trip unless you realise that will happen - and that it's not a problem.
Yes, I'll be back on a boat with Commodore!

I attended a corporate business team building trip hosted by commodore yachting and had an excellent day. This was my first time on a sailing yacht, Josh the captain was excellent in making me feel safe and at ease. Everything was explained in detail meaning I was able to get stuck in and have a lot of fun. Very hands on day with a great insight to sailing - something that I would definitely do again. The yacht and equipment provided (waterproof/wind proof jacket, life jacket) were in excellent condition and just added to the overall ease of the day for a complete novice. Would highly recommend!! Thank you for having us!!

Had a wonderful day out at see as part of a team building day out with Commodore Yatching. As a complete novice to sailing I felt in safe hands with our skipper (Josh) who contributed to the overall pleasant experience. Facilities on deck were well maintained and so was the kit that was provided on the day. What a great introduction to sailing…definitely keen to get back out on the water in the hopefully not to distant future!

Zero to Hero Yachmaster Course - September 2022.

Finally plucked up to courage to book on to this epic 17 week course in the winter of 2022.

I found the course to be very enjoyable with accommodation provided on the boats at Gosport. With 5 other people on the same course we worked our way through the training syllabus, going over most of the courses twice over, with a lot of mile building in between. The team at commodore were pleasant to train with and very supportive both during and after the course with career advice etc. It's not for the faint of heart as it's very intensive, but if you work together as a team and stick with it, you'll reap the rewards.

Thanks to all involved.

I arranged a corporate team building day at Commodore Yachting forthe day in August this year. Both myself and the team attending had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff in the office were a pleasure to work with, and our skipper/instructor for the day (Josh) was brilliant. The yachts are in an absolutely immaculate condition, very clean and well presented. All those heading out to sea were also issued with top notch life jackets and waterproofs too. Cannot recommend this company enough! It has certainly inspired me to book onto a day skipper course personally myself later on this year/start of next. Thank you Commodore Yachting!

Brilliant 😁
Did my comp crew last September with a mate. Was a bit nervous to start as I had not been sailing for over 30 years . Also meeting 3 strangers who were on the course was a bit daunting. Our instructor Lionel was ace . Very good teacher he had a calming effect on us all, which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable while learning at the same time. By day 2 you would have thought we had known each other for years , with a good share of light hearted humour and sarcasm .Most important we had become a crew singing off the same hymn sheet . Did not want to go home at the end of the course.
100% recommend Commodore to anybody who wants a professional, friendly introduction into sailing .
Thank you Commodore

Hello Thomas, Thanks for taking the time to write a review for us, and we are really glad you and your friend had a great time on your RYA Competent Crew course with us. It sounds like you both had a great week in the Solent, and got back into the swing of things. If there is anything else we can do to help with your future sailing plans, please don't hesitate to get in touch. keep on sailing!
