Would be a 0 if I could. Booked skating for my son and his friends for his birthday. Confirmation email said to turn up between 11am and 6pm. We arrived after driving some distance at 3.40 to be told they’re closing to the public at 4 as they’ve had a private booking. They said they knew since 9am but failed to contact us. Staff we unhelpful and unprofessional, refused a refund. Still in the process of trying to get one via emails. No replies so far. Out of pocket, didn’t get to skate and children massively disappointed.

Absolute discrace of a place!!!!!!!!!!!

We booked a ice hockey trial session with my 10 yr old son to see if he would like it and hopefully start something new.

We gave my sons name over at the reception and was told to go through. From here on there was no greeting or information of what to do. We spoke to three different staff trying to find out where to go? what kit we need? etc. No staff had a clue who we needed to see let alone help or find out from someone who did know. After 15 mins of walking around my son gave up and was in tears as the session had already started.

Not the morning i wanted as simple basics you expect from these sort of places were not met. Take your money and run........................

DISCUSTING PLACE.Puddles of water, Filth ridden toilets. My 4yr old was too scared to go on ice And we asked for a refund and rudly told, We don't do refunds.
Staff were a total joke, as my friend turnt to me to ask what size I need & another rude customer put her hand over my friend to give her piece of paper with how many skates she needed and even more shockingly the staff took it whilst not finished serving my friend.
He was getting 4pairs and had got 2 and asked me what size.
Staff should of told the girl, its not your turn. They let it way too many people.
Our penguin we paid for was taken and staff didn't care.
As my 4yr old didn't want to skate my 16yr old stayed with him whilst myself +my friend skated for 40mins out of 2hrs.What a waste for over £55. 4people and a penguin.
Will NEVER GO AGAIN.
Its a disgusting dirty place.
All about Money as wouldn't even consider why a refund was wanted. So don't pay if not sure your child will skate. Noticed 2 other mums with scared youngsters that didn't want to skate. Also couldn't find my older sons shoes for ages. Had to get more staff in to Please come down to help.

Skates dig into your feet as happened to all 4 of us.
Also no separate booking que as alot people today from paid on entry.
So I plan to come for over a week and I have to que for 15minutes, If thats the case they should have 2 ques.
Shame on you Planet ice for not giving refunds.
Money money money and rude staff.
When you walk in you'd think it would be a separate part to sit to change your shoes with puddles everywhere. Should be a system to it.

The ice is over-crowded (not helped by 1/4 of the rink being cordoned off for 3 people’s lessons while 300 share the rest of the small rink), isn’t re-smoothed between sessions so it is rough and messy and the whole place is very shabby. It’s the only rink we’ve been to (out of 5 or 6) that charges extra for skate hire, and yet the irony is these are the worst skates I’ve ever seen at a public rink. They are extremely unconfortable, very battered and half the inside stuffing is bursting out. It seems we didn’t even have some of the other laughable issues that others have with skate sizes running out, or long queues to get in, but I will still advise people to avoid this rink at all costs!

Having driven 1 hour with my son, informed at desk that they cannot except entry without online booking. No mention of this on website or automated telephone answer machine. To add insult to injury, teen on desk with chip on her shoulder exclaimed ‘this is not my responsibility’ to ensure that website provides clear information. Clearly she doesn’t understand that she represents Planet Ice. Had to call my wife from the car to book 2 tickets. I blame the management for the piss poor website and the staff and their surly attitude. On a positive note, service in skate shop is excellent.

Pre paid for tickets for Sunday 2.15 to 4pm session (09/01/2022) , we were half way down the que to get in, paid extra for a Polar bear which was £6. My friend and I took our 12 year olds for a late Christmas treat , by the time we got to collect our skates we were told the sizes we needed were not available. NO refund policy in place. WE paid £46 to que and then be told no skates , no refund, disgusting.

For a company thats soul purpose is providing ice rink facilities, Planet Ice appear to be failing at their Gosport site.

The whole arena feels a bit tired, dull and dirty. The ice rink itself was hugely disappointing and certainly didn't live up to the business branding of "Europe's Number One for Ice Leisure".

The ice had a build up of loose ice/snow that meant there was very little glide to the surface, there also seemed to be an incline on the surface which felt like you were skating up hill in one direction. It was disappointing that it wasn't resurfaced halfway through the session, which seems to be standard for most ice rinks.

Finally, it was moderately busy but still plenty of room to skate, however, the staff were not very effective in moving a large group of students congregating at the side of the ice which meant having to constantly avoiding them.

Overall a poor experience at Planet Ice, there is so much potential, which should be pounced upon due to the lack of competitors on the South Coast.

Overpriced by a long way. Ice was more of a water rink. Overcrowded. Queues for ages. No social distancing outside or inside. 1 staff member doing all payments.

I am no pro skater , But this rink does the job . We skate here on a fairly regular basis and I take my daughter with me. Yes its a little tatty round the edges, but it shows the staff do go the extra mile with limited resources. They make sure everyone is safe and having a good time. Skate hire and Skating Aid hire is well organised too you never have to queue very long if at all. The Café is not Cordon Blur but its not meant to be and does the job of giving you a freshly cooked lunch, even with the options of having beepers you can take out onto the ice if you do not want to wait . Honestly I think its good value for money especially as you could spend the whole day here for about a tenner per person. So much so that I am going to get one of the ICE membership cards for next year. Go on give it a go

Having recently moved down south and wanting to continue training I decided to check out this rink despite all the terrible reviews it had, just so i could personally see the quality of the ice and the venue. I will say I was surprised. I have still not finished unpacking so I had to use rental skates (which like all rentals are uncomfortable if worn for a long time I skated for about 3 and half hrs). I was shocked that the rentals I used still had some edge to them and while not sharp they weren’t dull either, for those of you into skating I was able to do a waltz jump and a single salchow in the rentals (not that id recommend due to their support rating but lets face it most people are not going to be trying to jump in their rentals). The ice was of a decent quality when i came in at the start of the session which wasnt too overcrowded. There were a few minor bumps the ice only one very noticable one in the center of the rink where it appeared had not been a leakage of water from the roof possibly?. The cut of the ice was good with only some of the edges near the wall not being flat and actually sinking might be an issue for people who like to hang on to the wall. The ice did need to be be cut and resurfaced after around 2 and half to 3 hrs into the session however as it was becoming fairly rough and torn up so if you do come aim to be there at the start of the session so as to take advantage of the smooth ice.

On a point about health and safety there was no marshall on the ice so if your child is going on without a coach you might want to go on with them to help them get started. Moreover, the lack of marshall meant there was no one around to help those skaters who fall and cant get up because they are new to skating and havent learnt yet, this is a potential hazard and people will be skating round and not everyone is super confident in their abilities in a public session to be able to weave around fallen individuals.

I didn’t visit the cafe but there seemed to be people in there who were being served fairly promptly. The off-ice portion of the rink is absolutely freezing (as is to be expected) would recommend bringing a thick coat or jumper if you plan on being off ice.

Skate Hire was decent but returning the skates is not so easy when no one is in the skate hire room and the button for the bell is on a table that you essentially have to lean into the room to actually press so someone can come and help you.

Overall, the experience was average and the quality of ice not utterly disgraceful as has been described here previously, I will probably return to train here tho it remains to be seen how the experience will build over multiple sessions at different times and over many weeks.
