Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

For the avoidance of doubt, this review refers to the brewery shop on the High Street and not the brewery itself. The shop is beautifully laid out with (of course) a full range of delicious Purple Moose bottled and canned beers but also beers from other Welsh micro-breweries and Welsh gin and wine as well as Purple Moose branded clothing (tee-shirts, hoodies, etc.) and gifts. The perfect place to buy an eight-pack to take home as a souvenir...

Full-on purple, beer and moose in this unique, friendly little shop!
Huge range of Purple Moose beers, both regular lines and limited editions. We bought some, having enjoyed "Snowdonia" and "Dark Side of the Moose" in the nearby Australia pub, the evening before.
We enjoyed browsing the ' Moose merchandise in the shop too...good pressie ideas here, at reasonable prices - as were the beers.
Huge selection of craft ciders as well.
Easy access and friendly staff. Great little visit. Thanks guys.

Due to Covid-19, the tours of the actual micro-brewery in Madoc Street are on hold until next year. However, I enjoyed a browse around their small brewery shop yesterday morning (Tuesday). It has recently moved further up the High Street nearer to The Australia Pub - you can't miss it as it stands out like the purple one in a tin of Quality Street! There was a one-way system in operation. The shelves were well stocked with award winning beers - I was tempted to buy a bottle of the Black Rock stout. They also sell various merchandise e.g. drinking glasses & clothing. I went down the steps at the back of the shop where they sold guest alcohols from other Welsh producers e.g. Aber Falls gins. The lady behind the counter was friendly and helpful. This 15 year old business also offers on-line sales.

Cute shop at the brewery, but it's only a shop you're allowed to visit - no tours of the actual brewery itself. There ARE samples for visitors to try, which I'm sure is a crowd pleaser. Staff was very nice.

Kevin the tour man was very passionate about the company/ brewing making the tour interesting fun, and packed with information. Great beer, we were given tasters at the end of the tour. The shop and pub are also worth a visit as they’re only round the corner from the brewery. All staff were very friendly and had great conversations. Will definitely return.

Tour is ok shame about the beer. Tour includes voucher for a free pint at Australia bar, only to find just 1 of their beers on draft, happened to be Dark Side of the Moose as we all prefer ligher ales gave it a miss. Used voucher on bottled beer unfortunately was cloudy and flat. Very disappointed as have enjoyed Purple Moose beer previously.

Excellent guided tour. Lasted approximately an hour with samples of all their fine beers afterwards.
Price is £5.00 but you get a PM pint glass for free at the end. Dark Side Of The Moose is a world-class brew.

The recent reviewer is actually factually incorrect. There are short brewery tours available every Monday to Thursday at 2.00pm, but booking is essential as they can only accommodate up to 8 people at a time due to the small size of the brewery. All details are available from the brewery web site.
We visited yesterday and it was very good. As I have visited many other breweries it didn't tell me anything I did not know already but always good to get up close to the brewing process and especially good to see that their continuing growth in demand has allowed Purple Moose to recently upgrade from a 10 barrel plant to a 40 barrel plant in April this year.
Tasters are available at all times and worth visiting for these alone as their currently available five beers are very good, especially the Dark Side of the Moose which is an excellent dark bitter.
There is limited parking outside the brewery but the large town 'cash and flash' car park ( pay and display if you are not familiar with that colloquial expression ) is only a short walk away, especially if you park at the far end after entering from the southern entrance nearest the heritage rail station.
In conclusion an excellent hard working local microbrewery and if you like British Ale, give it your patronage when in the area.

I always pay a visit to this shop for a selection of fantastic local beer. They never dissappoint Maybe one day I'll arrange a brewery tour the next time that I'm staying in Porthmadog, and I'll still visit this wonderful shop.

Thanks for visiting us and for the great review Brendan! We're sure you will enjoy the Brewery Tour when you get the chance (which includes a free pint and a 10% off the shop voucher!). Thanks again!
