Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I felt that two pounds was a bit steep to get me into a shed like this. The lady on the desk was nice but what is really needed is more artefacts and less entrance fee.

Anyone interested in the History of Porthmadog should pay a visit to this small but well-laid-out Museum. It's name
suggests the fact that the Town only exists because of the access the location provides to the Sea, specifically for the
export of Welsh Slate.
There is a Video presentation, about 15 minutes long, which summarises the History of the Town. After that you can browse
the exhibits, which provide further insight into the History of the Town and it's People.
The Museum is located on the ground floor, in the Harbour Area, a short walk from the Town Centre.
The Adult entry fee is very reasonable, Major Credit Cards are Accepted.

A very interesting museum in which to spend up to an hour, with a good selection of exhibits. The staff are particularly knowledgeable, special thanks to Eric.

Smallish but fascinating local museum. Whilst it's billed as the Maritime Museum, it includes the whole of the maritime industry in the port, including the expansion of the slate industry, local ship building, where the local mariners went etc.
If you are prepared to stop and read the captions, and put it all together, it's a great hour away from the bustle of the high street or the boatiness of the harbour.
Thanks, you made our trip to Portmadog.

Great history into industry of Porthmadog docks. £3 for two of us and given a kids quiz as well. Even got an area for kids to dress up.
Great for families, though small it will give to a short and enjoyable history.
Once my 6 year old finished the quiz the kind patrons marked and allowed my child to ring the ships bell as a prize.

For anyone interested in the maritime history of this part of North Wales, this is a great place to visit. I discovered a lot about a sailing ship on which a great-uncle of mine was chief officer before the first world war.

I stumbled upon the museum whilst looking for the tourist info centre (gone). The 10 min video explaining the history of Porthmadog is worth watching, but the exhibits are run of the mill. Not sure if it’s worth the £2 entrance fee.
They do however have some tourist info leaflets as do Tesco at the he other end of town.
