Much better than the Waitomo caves tour. A wider variety of formations, it is longer and less crowded. There are also glowworms, with better close-ups than in Waitomo.

The cave has a well designed entrance that takes you to the natural entrance much below the ground level. Beautiful examples of limestone rock formations can be seen and one also sees some examples of fossils. Rock formations are better than the nearby Waitomo caves....More

A must do trip if you visit North Island. Excellent tours with very informative and friendly guides who were excellent with kids.

This easily accessible cave system was wonderful. It was only opened in 2005 and it seems that only small groups do the walking tour of this cave system. The underground system is being well looked after and the various limestone features are in excellent condition....More

Hi Meiz, my question is why two nights in Matamata? Doing that drive, both caves and Hobbiton is possible in a day, but it will be a big day and I wouldn't recommend it with kids. I suggest staying in Waitomo or between... More

Theyre not very narrow. You dont have to stoop much. Im Elderly and had no problem even though im slso asthmatic
