Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dirty water, crowded beach mixed with stones and annoying salespeople including pooping horse everywhere. This beach is not any fun!

BEWARE Horse Riding Scam. The beach right outside Bay View and Hard Rock Hotel.

A guy named Azhar Abdullah asked if I wanted a ride for RM80! I said no thanks. He then told me quietly ok RM30. I still declined as I was really not interested.

We were friendly and made small talk in Malay asking about the Horse. As we were leaving my bf took a pic of me. When he saw that, he kindly offered to take the pic for us. He then told me to get on the horse to take a picture. I still declined but he insisted it was for FREE.

Once I got on, he quickly led the horse away and I told him no and he ASSURED me that it’s FREE again!

I was very happy, cut the story short, after a round, I got off and he insisted I pay RM80! WTF?! Even my BF reminded him that he said my ride was for FREE. He proceeded to act dumb and insisted. We did not even have cash and at the end I had to Bank Transfer RM50 to him. I was not going to pay RM80! BS. Especially before us there was a Malay kid riding the horse.

What a lousy dishonest person. He ruined our day. That is definitely not how you conduct business by cheating! Poor horses work as early as 9am till Sunset and they are constantly irritated and bitten by sand flies. Please beware. Better not to support.
I really hope they treat their Horses well and take care of them properly.

This is a surprisingly quiet beach with a sprinkling of sunbeds to hire for £5 ( 2 beds and a brolly ). We had a lovely lunch from one of the beach shacks. Super tasty food, 3 local dishes and 2 bottles of water for less than £7. There were water sports available and also horse riding. Certainly worth a visit.

Had a short morning visit before drop off to the airport. Nice beach, many water activities like banana boat and others. Shops on both ways to the beach. They sell souvenirs, fridge magnets, gifts and statues. Few restaurants opened for breakfast.
I think late afternoon this area will by highly crowded.

Grey sand, beach washed away - filthy smelly creek prevents you from walking the length of the beach. Not sure why anyone would stay here. The hotels pulling in the big money should be required to contribute to the recovery of a very sad little beach and town.

We were fortunate to be staying at the Bayview Resort which backs directly onto the beach. It was a very lovely place for a sunset walk and you can certainly get some great photos over the bay from the end of the concrete pier in the middle of the beach.

Not the greatest beach in Malaysia, and if you’ve been to Thailand and Vietnam, expectations for beaches are high in SE Asia and this one just doesn’t reach the heights. There is a little bit of rubbish on the beach and washing up on shore, and there are a few jellyfish knocking round too. Not many shops and stalls nearby. That being said, the sand is pretty decent and there is also water sports available. There was a huge digger on the beach and some construction work being done a bit further down, so a little bit of an eyesore. Overall, average beach. Oh, and you have to pay for the toilet.

This is a sad, tired and dejected place compared to a few years back. My guess is covid has decimated much of it with boarded up hotels, former restaurants that look like earthquake zones, few eating options and the once vibrant street market a shadow of what it used to be.
It’s terrible and you become a captive of the hotel with their high prices and lack of variation. Maybe Phuket has captured much of this market as its recovery seems to have been much more rapid than poor old Penang.
