The waves vary a lot depending on the tide so be sure to check with a local as to when is best. But it is never really bad, at least during my four days there. Many local instructors that are very affordable as well.

A few miles pats Santa Teresa is Playa Hermosa. Expansive white sandy beaches with a swimable surf break. There are plenty of tress around to get tat much needed shade from the blistering heat.

Ok, the beach is stunning, but for those of you who are beginner to intermediate surfers, this is your break. Gentle breaking waves make this place less intimidating that other beaches. Make sure you map out where the beach access point is on your smartphone...More

Probably the nicest beach we saw in Costa Rica--- up there with Montezuma and Manuel Antonio. A little difficult to find and a bumpy ride to get there but well worth it.

Was lucky enough to have visited Playa Hermosa before the general tourist population discovered it. When I first visited in 2008, there would hardly be anyone on the beach except for our surf camp (just a few folks) and a few locals scampering with puppies...More

A beach surrounded by palm trees and jungle with smaller waves. No hidden cliff or rock formations underneath the water. Water temperature is around a cozy 24-28 degrees C.

Great for sufing, lying on the beach or just enjoying the sunset. Keep in mind that there are no amenities (restrooms, restaurants, etc).

We found this beach early on and fell in love. The beach is wide and compact - great for a morning run, yoga or simply just laying on the beach taking in some sun! The water was great - long rolling waves great for all...More

One of the best playas I've ever been. Great sand, perfect crystal clear water. Best sunset ever! Also great for surfing (beginners). Recommended!

What a stunning place to lay out and soak in the sun, play in the water, bodyboard, and surf - especially for beginners! Please go!

We're traveling to Costa Rica first time next week. Are there restaurants in the area or do we need to pack food/drinks? Any suggestions for me?

Always bring water, it is hot. You can only get around by 4x4 and quads or ATVs are best. There are places in town that rent if your accommodations does not. The food is excellent! Everything is farm to table no matter where... More

Playa Hermosa is a short distance (3-4 miles north of Santa Teresa) off of the main road. Look for a small sign on the left that says "Colors" sort of faded. Take that left on rough road to ocean and Playa Hermosa (about 1/2... More
