APROVACA is an orchid nursery & conservation center. We display over 100 beautiful orchids, most of which are native to Panama. Entrance is $2, which include a 20-min guided tour of the center in Spanish or the free use of an English self-guided tour booklet. APROVACA is one of the few places where the National Flower of Panama, the Dove Orchid, is grown in the country. In the greenhouse dedicated exclusively to this endangered flower, you can see over 100 plants growing. In fact, each flower has a sponsor, who donates $20 annually to help us care for and protect this gorgeous orchid species. In our recently expanded garden, you can also see many unique orchid species, such as the vanilla orchid (vanilla is actually an orchid!), lady slipper orchids, the Vanda Miss Joaquim (the gorgeous National Flower of Singapore) and many cute little miniature species. As such, there is no better place to learn about the amazingly rich and unique flora of Panama!Apart from admiring the beautiful orchids, you can also buy the Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis) and over 20 varieties of herbs and medicinal plants. We also run an internet cafe on our premise, where we offer high-speed internet connection through computers and Wi-Fi, good coffee, homemade cakes and fresh juice. The latest addition to our center is Hostel Orchid, the first genuine backpacker accommodation in El Valle. The rate is $12 per night, which include hot shower, free Wi-Fi and a free visit of the orchid center APROVACA. Please visit our renewed website to learn more about us. We are waiting for your visit!

Well, first, the was no guide. The first time we visited them, last year, a guide explained us and took us through the trail. Gave us tons of information. But this time there were no guide and we felt kinda lost. Plus almost no orchids were in bloom.

This place is dedicated to preserving the dozens of types of orchids found in Panama. Started with a grant from Japan, the grounds and laboratories house most if not all the wild species of orchids in the region and is dedicated to reintroducing them into the wild. Worth a look

This place is an small but full of love center. They have so many differents types of orchids and other plants. The really nice part of this center is that they don't sell the plants. they grow them to insert in the forest.

We went in August and at first were disappointed there were not more orchids in bloom. But as we wandered through the gardens, we were captivated by all the other types of plants there, as well as some cool butterflies. There were lots of miniature orchids that were quite interesting. Worth the $2 entrance fee. And the more you wander... More

A nice experience to wander through and see the orchids but the best part was watching all the different birds come into the yard.

Our group of 6 adults very much enjoyed the short tour(time & distance). Dozens of blooming orchids plus other flowers and herbs. There is only 1 sign just out of town( on Hwy 71 as you drive up from the Pan American). As you pass the Rey supermarket on the left, look for a left turn onto a street with... More

The guide had tremendous knowledge of orchids, native medicinal plants, local culture, and the variety of orchids. Takes about 30-45 minutes to view. Would be suitable for families and children. Nice exhibit.
