Perissa Black Sand Beach
Perissa Black Sand Beach

About
This idyllic beach in Santorini is famous for its black sand, the result of the volcanic activity that created the island. Calm conditions and crystal-clear waters teeming with fish make for excellent snorkeling and swimming. Enjoy a relaxing day of bathing in the Mediterranean sun and stay until the evening to catch the spectacular sunset over the Aegean sea, framed by the Mesa Vouno mountain. The beach is easily accessible from Fira, the capital of the Greek island. Summer is the busiest season—rather than rushing around, book a seaside hotel in Perissa town to enjoy this spot of paradise to the fullest. – Tripadvisor

    Different…
I had experienced black sand beaches on big island in Hawaii and this is similar to that. It was nice for me as when I visited it was pretty much empty. I can imagine it gets really crowded during peak season. Worth a stop to experience a different kind of beach

    Visit Perissa, stay somewhere else.
We visited Perissa whilst staying in Kamari. It was a good four hours or so but nowhere near the action provided in Kamari. Visit but do not stay there unless a) you have a car, or b) you want a very quiet holiday.

Beautiful beach and lots of fun restaurants
This is a very long black sand beach with lots of good restaurants along the way. Plan to go have lunch or drinks-most places offer free lounge chairs umbrella with a purchase and then lounge with beautiful views of the cliffs and the sand. Beach is rocky and can get quite hot so bring shoes to protect your feet.

    Nice beach with good vibes
We visited this beach after eating at Acropolis Restaurant. We did not have to pay for the beach chairs. There were massages available for €. Nice boardwalks between the chairs and to the water. Very relaxing place to hang out. The sand was pebbly black rocks, but finer rocks than some other beaches we were at.

    Glad we stayed in Perissa
We’re so pleased we decided to stay in Perissa. The hotel was amazing, Antoperla Luxury Hotel and Spa. Lots of fantastic restaurants but still a place where you can relax. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. You can visit other areas of the Island for the day easily. Having been to Oia for the day, we were pleased we took the advice of friends and visited rather than stay there. It’s so busy. We will definitely go back and stay in Perissa.

    Your dose of Vitamin Sea
The bus ride from Fira to Perissa Beach was pretty much straight forward. The beach was clean and a lot of sun beds/loungers to choose from. The water was clear and refreshing. The staff from the bar were friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommended for your dose of vitamin sea.

    Perfect beach
We stayed at Villa Dima just 200m from Perissa Black Sand Beach. We enjoyed an amazing sunrise on the beach with a coffee and spanakopita :)). The beach is very nice organised with sun-beds an umbrellas. At the day time can be enjoyable the water sport , but at the evening time there are lot of beach bars and restaurants that provide local food and good music. We enjoyed our stay in Perissa with Villa Dima hotel. We recommend Perissa beach for all who are looking to stay in Santorini island by the beach side.

    Good island base
We loved it. Stayed in Athanasia 5 mins from beach with TUI. Are every night at one of the many beach front tavernas. Loved the pedestrianised vibe at night. Nice bars for a drink, you also sit on the sand on tables to eat- wonderful at night to sit eating listening to waves and seeing moon on water. Perissa is a good base to explore- we got buses to fit and Oia for €2. You need to change at first for Oia but its easy. Also hired quad bikes in Perissa to drive to red beach. Having seen crowds on Oia I would rather stay in Perissa. Also we did a volcano cruise which picked up in Perissa. We loved our week. Check out irini bakery for breakfast!

    Best beach in Santorini
One of the best beaches in Santorini. The sand is good -it is not pebbles as Kamari beach. There are a lot of places you can lay with your towel or pick a sunbed by a restaurant front in exchange for drinks and food purchased from there. Be selective because there are places where you need to pay for sunbeds, but if you walk further they are for free.

    A nice afternoon
Went midweek during shoulder season and basically had the entire beach to ourselves. Rented a beach umbrella with two lounges at Kelly's for 15 euro. Sampled yhe restaurant food which had large portions and was excellent. It was great.

It was a nice stop on a tour, and was cool to see the black sand. If you're short on time, it's something to skip also.

Easier to reach by public local bus from Fira central bus station and cost euro1.60 one way per pax. Is a small beach area with some restaurants and cafes around.

Nice quiet beach to spend a few hours. The sand is not the most comfortable underfoot and a bit sketchy getting into the sea due to the rocks but lots of pretty fishes to see so definitely bring a mask and snorkel

Perissa is a lovely spot.
The beach front promenade has lots of different restaurants.
All serving something slightly different. Many back onto the beach and if you eat there its free sunbeds for the day as well

Although the beach is long it is not suitable for walking across as it is full of rocks and pebbles. The sea also is not easy to access as there are slippery rocks and the waves are quite harsh. Wouldn’t recommend visiting, Santorini is not known for its beaches anyway.

I’ve been to many beaches in Greece and this really didn’t do it for me!
People mention how beautiful it is but I don’t think there is anything beautiful about it tbh, we spent one day here and that was enough, the sand is obviously black, the sea is treacherous to get into, the edge of the beach is covered in some kind of green algae so when you get in the water you’re sliding all over the place, even with sea shoes!
The beach bar umbrella’s are past their best as are the beds, just looked tatty to me, the only nice thing was sunrise first thing in the morning!
Many more beaches in Greece that are actually beautiful, this isn’t one, bit like Bognor but in Santorini!

Lovely beach, water cold but very welcome in the hot weather. You can rent beds from the restaurants a little pricey I think but all charger the same.

Beautiful beach, crystal clear water and lots of tavernas and shops around.
We rented beach chairs and umbrellas, had a great lunch.
It’s about 45-50 minute drive from Oia. Well worth it!
