Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Choose from 6 different cafes/restaurants for your choice of meals. Grab some gelato under the arch. Pick up some household goods, personal effects, etc at one of the 2 little shops. The piazza is truly walled in but gives lovely views of Atrani, and is steps from the beach, thus it is the center of life in Atrani. Other than an extensive grocery store, it has all you need. There is also the local chiseo di Maria Magdalena (didn't visit) right in the square.

Access into Piazzetta Umberto is thru a small archway from the beach/parking area and on into the center! several caffes/ristorantes and a couple of shops make for a very quaint setting in Atrani!......quite the gathering place!

Having driven from sorrento we thought we would never get parked, but found that if the parking by the beach is full you can go through the arch there are a further 28 spaces up the hill. Be aware that the parking wardens are really on their toes though.
The beach is one of the best in the area and we ate at the pizzeria near the beach and had a very good meal.

Given a choice between a big city and a small quaint town, I will always select the latter. We stayed in Atrani for 5 nights, enjoying the calm square, with excellent restaurants. Atrani is the smallest municipality in Italy, per Wikipedia. It has a small beach with calmer waters. If you need something a little larger, you can find Amalfi proper, about 100 yards down the road.

We stayed in an apartment in Atrani in June this year. It was a quaint little town away from the busy Amalfi just a short walk-away. There were several restaurants, coffee shops, and a small general store. Bring your walking shoes. There are stairs everywhere.

So, I love this little Piazzetta and the locals who inhabit it. I've sat here early in the morning having a Tea, Espresso, Cappuccino or orange juice and just looked on in simple amazement at the connectivity of the local population. Full of characters and they all know each other. There are a few places open early, (think 8 AM to 9 AM as early) and it's a fun place to wake-up and watch a small village unfold.

Besides the natural beauty of this place, it is made special by the interactions of citizens of this amazing little town. Old and young congregate to gossip, sip wine, eat gelato, dote on children all in a timeless scene that could have been played out 50 years ago. If you want a real taste of what makes Italy special, this is a great place to start.

We stayed overlooking this piazza.
It is small and full of locals from dawn until the early hours of the morning, chatting, laughing, yelling at one another, or at the TV as they collectively watch a soccer game. The church bells ring and ring and ring. Dogs bark, scooters squeak and cars squeal. The piazza is ringed by restaurant after restaurant or cafe. Some of them are good. Some not. There are stairs everywhere - to the church, the road, the houses, to paths that lead to Amalfi and other villages. Cars rumble by on the coastal road that sits on top of some of the houses. A series of curved arches lead down to a pebble beach. Don’t go there if you can’t cope with all of that. Do go there if you want to see village life where tourists impinge, but not to the point of suffocating the locals.
