We had visited Montalcino twice and enjoyed the sweeping views from the walls of the old Fortezza built in the 14th century. The mighty fortress proudly protected the hill town of Montalcino at various times and is in remarkable condition now.

Famous for its Brunello, Montalcino's fortress is a place to try some wines before buying a bottle or three in its shop. The views of the countryside from its battlements are very good. And be sure to visit some of the shops and stop for...More

There is so much to see in Montalcino beyond the castle and fortress. The architecture is original and views from the walls just amazing! Take a bit of time to wander around and soak up the atmosphere.

This castle is pleasant and relaxing. It's free to enter and ground level and there is a pleasant wine bar inside, with very knowledgeable staff. There is a charge to go up on to the ramparts, but the views make it worthwhile.
