    Great day out
We visited recently with our 2 children and had a very enjoyable day. The kids loved the cable car ride and cavern tours, luckily the weather was good so we could get the most out of the amazing scenery. We had lunch in the cafe which was very nice and a spectacular view when sat on the outdoor tables. There are also two very good kids play areas. All staff we met were very friendly and informative. The only slight issue was the cost which we found quite steep compared to other attractions in the area, £71 advance online price for a family of four. Initially this had put us off visiting, but in the end we took advantage of the 20% off if travelling by train. Parked at Cromford (which is much easier anyway as the main car park at Matlock Bath can get very busy), and travelled to Matlock Bath for £1.20 return. The station is even closer to the cable car than the car parking. Highly recommended!
Hi there, thank you for your lovely review, I'm pleased to hear you all had an enjoyable day and found all of our team to be helpful and informative. I'm also pleased to hear you took advantage of our 'visit by public transport' discount and took the train from Cromford, which we always encourage our visitors to do! Hope to see you again soon.

    Well worth a visit
Don't be drawn in by the cable car ride. That's a minor part of the day. The history, and geographical information given throughout the course of the day are the reason for visiting. From the Romans to the victorian ages, it covers it all. Mel, our tour guide in the Masson chamber was enthusiastic and engaging. Don't be put off by the safety drill that warns about clostrophobia in five foot tall caves. You may need to duck but the caves are wide and you will not feel pressed in.
Hi Kev, thanks so much for your brilliant review, I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed learning the history of our wonderful estate. We'll be sure to pass your feedback onto Mel!

    A big thank you
We visited on the 6th March and my husband who is disabled was apprehensive. However the staff stopped the cablecar so he could get on and off safely and at the top we met Trudi who was a member off staff who gave us lots of information and said she would take my husband to the cinema room so he could watch a film of the caves whilst we went down them. She was so attentive we can't praise her enough. She asked Linda in the shop to look after him whilst he was there and fetched him a coffee. Brett also came to talk to him and Trudi walked down the hill with him to make sure he was safe. Adam who took us down the cave was very informative and entertaining and looked after us very well. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and we will certainly reccomend a visit to our friends
Hi there, thanks for your 5 star review! I'm so pleased all of our team were helpful to you and your husband, we do try our very best to go the extra mile wherever we can. We'll ensure our team see your lovely comments, and thank you so much for recommending!

    Great day out
Great day out, lots to do. The resturant doesn't have many gluten free options but the waitress who served us was fantastic and checked everything was safe, I was very impressed with how she handled allergens. They allowed us to have chips (which they went to the cafe downstairs for the seperare fryer for) with pulled pork and cheese, which weren't on the menu but was an amazing meal. The luxury hot chocolates were awesome too, as well as the toasted marshmallows by the lower cave. The views were great and the staff who did the cave tours were enthusiastic and interesting.
Hi Nicky, thanks for your great review. I'm pleased to hear our staff members went the extra mile to check our food was safe for you to eat and made something delicious for you. We'll look into getting more gluten free options for our restaurant and cafe. Great to see you enjoyed the cavern tours too! Thank you very much.

Great staff, very helpful great day
We booked 12:00 cable car the price was 23.50 online per person think it maybe 27 at the gate, this sounds a lot but it is real value for money, as it was outa season we just went straight up no queues , the ticket staff and ground crew were very friendly and welcoming. The ride up was smooth and views were spectacular.😜👍 The cars do not stop but you get plenty of warning and help to get on n off. Dogs are allowed on the cable cars, but we didn’t see any dogs on the cavern tours so check. There was plenty to do up top, such as small museums historic clothing, gift shops, cafes and a play area for children. The first tour we went on (which is included) was the Great Masson our guide was Adam, he was great, very enthusiastic and knowledgeable you could tell he was passionate about what he did, the tour Lasted 30mins give or take but this may vary depending on size of group. Advised sturdy footwear maybe leave the white trainers at home if you want them to stay white😁 There are a few steps involved, think he mentioned 152 so bear that in mind, also the caves can be quite closed in so if you don’t like closed in spaces think again. But the guide will let you try to see how you get on,you can always turn around at the first part of the tour. The tour gives you a real sense of what it must have been like mining back in the day. The second tour was the Rutland which was a steep walk down the hill, there is a little cafe and toilets down there. The tour for the Rutland runs every 45 mins. Our guide was Steve, he had some great stories of how the miners worked and how they diversified after the lead run out. Both tour guide we superb. We went up the cable car at 12 and got out around 1545 after seeing everything. So if you are planning a food stop give yourself more time, also in busier times I’d give yourself all day as you maybe queuing Overall a great day and value for money.
Hi Kevin, thank you so much for this excellent review! It really does mean a lot to us. I'm glad to see you found us value for money and enjoyed all aspects of the day. I'll pass your feedback onto Adam and Steve who I'm sure will be delighted to have been mentioned! Hope we can welcome you back again soon.

    Bring your walking shoes!
Great day out - we did everything there was to do (except kids stuff as just us 2 adults) and were there for 4 hours. We happened to be there on the Victorian themed weekend which really added to the experience. Maybe make this a permanent feature? I'd say it was on the pricier side so this would give better value for money. The food was very expensive but we anticipated this and took our own. I have middle-low fitness and found the walking quite tough to be honest so something to bear in mind. Bring good shoes! All in all, a great day out but take a good pair of trainers, avoid the costly food if you can to keep the price down, and see if you can go on a themed weekend.
Hi there, thanks for your lovely review! I'm pleased you enjoyed our Victorian Weekend and found it added to your overall experience. We are keeping some aspects of the weekend, such as the Victorian cavern tours, the living history actors and the overground tour too so our future visitors can enjoy the entertainment we organised. Thanks for visiting!

    Fantastic friendly helpful staff
Fantastic time even though it was drizzling on and off all day. Lovely professional but friendly staff, every single one, they are all a credit to the attraction! Took the kids waterproof trousers so they could still use the adventure playground. Had the mine tour from a great guy and the kids didn’t once say ‘when is it finished?’- he captivated from start to finish and even answered random questions they were firing at me up the steps on the way out. Cafe and the staff were absolutely lovely the whole place was spotlessly clean. Needed food suitable for allergies and gluten free and they were happy to double check the chips were suitable and confirmed separate fryer too. Icing on the cake was finding Swedish Glacé Dairy free ice cream cones in the freezer - thank you so much. Many venues just opt for the vegan magnums that aren’t suitable for a milk allergy due to a may contain warning. Even the rock shop and gift shop were reasonably priced and the ladies in both were so friendly and helpful I couldn’t have asked for more. The grounds are all tidy and it is clear lots of maintenance and investment goes in, even down to the bird feeding stations and willow sculptures. Was a little apprehensive taking two kids on my own but we had such a lovely time in the rain, we will return another day for the cavern tour & videos hopefully in the sun. Thank you!

Exiting, and a lot more than we expected !
Having spent alot on thime in the Derbyshire area I have never been to The Heights of Abraham until this year when holidaying with my daughter and her children. I has always thought it was just a cable car ride, cannot believe how much more there is too it ! From the excitement of jumping onto the still (slowly) moving cable car to discovering all that was on offer we were really impressed. The opportunity to visit the caves was limited to myself and husband , this was a great experience , but at 3yrs and 1 yr wasn't felt appropriate for the children. The costume gallery was intersting, imagining the site being a tourist attraction in the 1700's and people visiting in such garments. The playgrounds were fun for the children, they also enjoyed the walk , buggy ride within the grounds. We ate at the cafe, with the amazing views from the glass balconey. The fact that the tickets are valid for return visit within 12mths was an added bonus.
Hi Andrea, thanks for your lovely review! I'm glad to hear you've finally visited us after so long and were excited by everything else we have to offer besides the cable car ride. I'm glad you enjoyed the cavern tours, they are suitable for all ages, but we do leave it up to the parents to decide what's best for their children. Hoping you also had time to head down the giant slide with the kids too! I'm glad you upgraded to an annual pass to enjoy more visits this year. Thank you again!

    Great!
The Cavern tours were really interesting and the tour guides were very good, Matthew deserves a mention. There are 2 play areas for kids that entertained them for a while. It is not for anyone with mobility issues. The restaurants food was good but slightly pricey but again understandable given location. Definitely worth booking. The weather was kind to us for half a day and the afternoon it was quite blustery. The scenery from the Heights are just stupendous. Would thoroughly recommend this place.
Hello! Thank you for your lovely review, I'm pleased you enjoyed the tour with Matthew and the new Victorian cavern tour too. Thank you very much for recommending to other readers.

    We will be back!
Visited today with my 15yr old daughter and had a great time. Despite it being the Easter holidays the queues were minimal and the staff at all attractions were lovely and very helpful. Special mentions to Estrelle de Luna at The great Rutland Cavern and Steve (His knowledge was outstanding) at The great Masson Cavern for their fun and knowledgeable tours. They are a credit to you and made the tours suitable for all ages. Not visited this attraction for over 30 years but our experience today means we will be back very very soon. Keep up the great work.
Hello, thank you for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. I'm pleased you had a good time with your daughter. Extremely glad to see a mention of our Victorian cavern guide, this is a new tour we are trying this season and has so far been a great success. Thank you for paying us a visit after so long, and hope to see you back again soon.

Great location and views. Some steep walks but enough to keep you busy all day.. Would be even better with good weather - we went on a drizzly day. Masson Cave is a must - Steve was a great entertaining guide. Rutland cave a bit of a let down. Staff lovely. Lots of food options

We have just got back from the Heights of Abraham. Was a thoroughly enjoyable day out with children mixed in age from 5 to 15. The caverns were interesting, the playgrounds were fun and the food in the cafe was good. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Particular mention needs to go to Mel the tour guide who was full of energy on the cavern tour, and also Trudi the first aider who treated one of our party for a bump after falling over.

Lovely place to visit with the family. From the Cable car ride to the caves and play areas. Even in poor weather it was great. Mathew the cave guide was funny and very knowledgeable. The only downside was the cafe. I understand it was quite busy but it was February not summer time. Took ages to order, staff seemed inexperienced, & more interested in flirting with other staff getting their lunch. Order of two coffees and a brownie was messed up, which added to the wait.
We will visit again as on the whole we had a lovely time.

It was a lovely sunny day and we were quite lucky with that… all the staff were so helpful, friendly and well informed. We booked the tickets in the morning but they had not received the order by the time we got there but the ticket office did their best and sorted it out for us.

The cable car was a lovely ride and only about 5 minutes or so. The surroundings are very well kept and everyone was smiling.

Food in the cafe looked good but was a bit pricey for us so we grabbed a coffee and cake when we got up there.

The caverns were really interesting but they were mines although had characteristics of caves and lots of history. Don’t expect stalagmites or stalactites! Our guide Steve was excellent and the tour was so informative and funny.

There’s lots for kids and we may not have made the most of everything as we got the cable car down. I’m sure the walk down to the bottom was lovely but we had to get back for the car.

Parking was a bit busy at the station but we went through to the back and paid by phone which was a bit of a mission to register if you’ve not got the app or any coins to pay.

Effectively £25 ea for a short cable car ride and cave tour. We were up and down in around 90mins and that included sitting down for a watered down “premium hot chocolate”. Advertised USP of amazing views is the same as the other adjoining hills.
I’m convinced this used to be about a third of the price a few years ago.

Terribly expensive and not much to do when up there.
Even buying a hot chocolate was a rip off. Was over charged and when I pointed this out was just told that the price must have changed compared to the price list. It then tasted of water. Lady was rude and unfriendly.

Really Good! Got the cable car tot he top and there was a lot to look at. It is very steep, so if you not able to walk well you might struggle, parking was difficult as well. They had live music, food places, caves, play areas and tower. Quite a lot to do and everyone was entertained. Recommend.

Excellent, although pricey! However well worth the money for those views. You can also choose to do a guided tour in the caverns within the allocated price.
