Much more than we expected! We did the tour in the mine (highly recommended), and our guide Theo was very informative and fun. The museum itself had tunnels and crawl spaces, with lots of others interactive objects. All in all definitely worth a trip!

This is absolutely a must seen. I would suggest to visit the mine as well. Chris was very kind and explained the history involved the children in the conversation in a very approachable way and answered all the questions we had, very well prepared and knowledgeable. The museum is very nice and what I loved is that are activities to involve the children as well.
Highly recommended.

We toured the mine with a guide called Chris - he was excellent and very patiently answered our questions and those of our two grandchildren - 6 and 9 years old. We would thoroughly recommend this tour.

We did the tour as well as the museum. I cannot compliment our tour guide - Chris - enough. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the mine, history of the all the mining operations in the Derbyshire area, and the nature of the minerals mined for shone through. I am guessing he is a geologist at heart but he is incredibly knowledgeable of all the aspects involving the lead mining and happily shares his knowledge in an engaging way.
The museum itself has some amazing exhibits and all items are clearly indicated with information regarding their nature and use. Value for money and time well spent. Add educational and I can only say that these guys are ticking all the boxes. Craig and Janet

Went with my two grandsons (9 and 12). Spent an hour wandering around the museum. Plenty of different things to see.
But the best part of the visit was the tour of Temple Mine across the road. Tour guide Chris was very knowledgeable and he was good with the various aged kids on the tour. Fascinating visit and history of mining.

Had a fantastic trip today to the Temple Mine. Chris was an incredibly knowledgeable and engaging guide who shared his enthusiasm for the history of local mining and geology. Even with two small children he had them fully engaged in the tour. Great attention to detail, with careful Health and Safety provision, hard hats provided. Functionally, the trip has no ladders, is easy to manage for most levels of mobility. There are some spots where there is limited height; but never for long. We also really enjoyed panning for Iron Pyrite. The kids went away with quite a few flakes of “gold”.
Much recommended!

This museum was a great find for a rainy day. Lots for our 4 year old to explore and lots of hands on stuff. The mine tour was interesting too

It is great to hear that we kept your 4-year old busy as they explored the Museum. Hopefully that means you also got to read some of the information.

We bought a joint ticket for the mining tour and museum we weren't disappointed! A very informative young guide took us around the mine and gave enough detail without it being too much. My little boy a 4 year old enjoyed wearing a hard hat and seeing what it was like without lights on!
We then had lunch in the restoration cafe then onto the museum. The museum is full of information for those that are really interested. However with a 4 year old the museum highlights were the tunnels and ladders! He had a fantastic time and they are big enough for adults to squeeze into to enjoy exploring and support them too! There was also a rat trail which was good for a 4 year old to spit on the way round. They also offer sensory bags to hire whilst touring around the museum which shows great thought about helping every visitor. Throughly recommend a trip here and great value for money and a fantastic place to visit when it's raining with friendly staff.

I never knew there was a mine in Matlock bath which had tourist access, and we had both an informative and informal tour of it! Really easy to ask the guide anything and for the price, good value as 2 hours parking was just right for time spent there.

We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your tour of Temple Mine. The smaller group numbers do make it easier to ask the guide questions during the tour. If you have a suggestion of how we could have made it a 5* visit do email me at mail@peakmines.co.uk

The museum was good with lots of things that the kids enjoyed but especially the tunnel set up and the mouse hunt. As well as the museum we went on the mine tour which was led by Theo who was brilliant with great humour and excellent knowledge about the mines. My daughter particularly enjoyed the sifting for gold activity that we did at the end.

We love to hear that the children were kept busy in the Museum. Panning for 'gold' is always popular.

The ground floor is wheel chair accessible. There is a chair lift (ask staff to operate it for you) to the upper floor and we have a wheel chair upstairs. I am afraid we do not have a lift.
