- Matthew TateBelgravia, United Kingdom54 contributionsReally like what they have done here. One of a kind. What a find!! Unique does not do it justice. Has an amazing interior which I could have spent hours looking at. Staff really friendly and knowledgeable about all the different types of liquor. I went for the Pilsner and my wife had Rhubarb Cider! Really well kept. I also love chess and they seem to have a chess night. I want everyone to check out this venue, and enjoy everything about it. Will definitely be back. (Visited from London).Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2024
- Cidrman230659 contributionsBags of character, but...I stay in Ramsgate for three days and come on the bus (only 15 mins) at night to eat and drink. Any visitor should make time for The Chapel, with its book lined walls its got bags of character, looks like its been here since the 19th century. As a real cider lover its a cider heaven with 20 boxes, about half apple cider, half so-called fruit cider. Only reason I can't award five stars is that you need bags of money, at £2.80 a half it's considerably dearer than other Broadstairs cider pubs, The Magnet, Mind the Gap, and The Royston. On holiday, money's no object but if I were local I wouldn't drink here that often. And check beforehand when they are open, opening times seem a bit unpredictable.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 May 2024
- Bob C49 contributionsBooks and beer. Perfect.I love this place. I sued t9 come here n the 70s when it was The Albion 2nd hand bookshop. A huge place crammed with books. Upstairs is still full of books with many downstairs too. Great bitter, lovely staff and so chilled and relaxing.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 August 2024

We returned here on Friday night after a concert in Margate. Last time, we came it was so cold in there. This time with more bodies ( customers) it was a lot warmer. Different staff behind the bar but really, really friendly. The guy especially. Full of books to buy if you want to as well. The drinks reasonably priced and not over the top as it had gone midnight. Recommended.

Had to try three times to get in as it's pretty small so was full. They have the Covid stuff really well sorted. Nice beers and cocktails, super service.
Absolutely 100% we will come here next time we are in Broadstairs.
And you like books, you'll be in heaven!
Good place to go for a drink on date night.

Loads of books above the bar area, a decent sized bar and seating at different levels. Service was ok , lots of variety coffee, ales and spirits available. Situated on the main drag down to the beach.

I had an awesome time getting looked after by Tom, he's such a huge asset! But how you left him alone to work solo I've no idea. The place was heaving and the poor guy was doing incredible. Whoever owns this place, Julian, needs to seriously rethink the demand on their staff! It's difficult to even get a drink and not the fault of the staff.

Absolutelt brilliant. A pub that is a bookshop that used to be a chapel. Super-quirky bar that caters for everyone! Except children, probably, but that's not a problem at all. Bar staff very friendly and there's a good choice of cask and keg beers, cider, coffee, and proper crisps. Love it.

You could well walk past without realising what you are passing.
It looks like a bookshop, basically because it has been one for 50 years.
Before that, from 1601, it was a chapel.
So, books for sale all around.
Benches and chairs and tables. Interesting decor.
Good range of cocktails, well made.
Nice range of real ales. I did try a couple, rather nice.
We’ll be back.

Visited here last night, my first ever visit to broadstairs and quite frankly I wasn’t impressed the whole weekend.
That is, until I came here with my friends! The premises are absolutely wonderful, good selection of drinks to suit any type of person and the staff!
Utterly impressed, being a bar owner... it can be very hard to pull in a team that have the chemistry to run a pub well, aswell as having fun whilst doing it! Perfect balance with the both of them. I was so impressed to the point that I even created an account on here just to congratulate them on their work.
Will be visiting broadstairs again and I really hope to see George and Freddy in there again!

Fab little spot. Lovely bartender (who told us we could move in if we wanted to) and excellent cocktails and choice of drinks. Roaring fire, excellent music playing. Only grouch is that there is so little light upstairs that it's impossible to see any of the book titles once the evening descends. Otherwise, head on over. You'll love it.

Found this place after dinner on Saturday, well what can I say, I loved it,very quirky a bar in a bookshop. Little nooks and crannies filled with books. Great staff and background music, definitely come back if in the area.
