Overview
More
The Falls of Shin is such a pleasing place to relax and watch salmon leaping from the dynamic waterfall. The Falls of Shin are spectacular in their own right, but the sight of leaping salmon makes them even more special and something not to be missed. Falls of Shin is recognised as being one of the best places worldwide to watch leaping Atlantic Salmon. The fish can be seen anytime between May and November, with the late summer months making this almost guaranteed. Following a fire which saw the former building burn to the ground, the Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, on behalf of the community were successful with a Stage 1 BIG Lottery application and were invited to make a Stage 2 funding application. The design concept of the building, created by CH Architecture, is loosely based on the image of a fish and is made up of a head, body and tail. Each part forms a distinctive function. We are proud to have a 4* rating on TripAdvisor and another 4* with the Visit Scotland Rating Scheme. Please feel free to leave your own visitor comments! The centre will feature a 60 seat cosy café, a gift shop with local produce stocked, an exhibition and interpretation area, a children’s play area along with an events plaza. This will all fit into the surroundings of the on-site forest and of course the leaping salmon.

Well worth the detour for those travelling the NC500, salmon can be seen jumping most of the year although late summer or after heavy rain are the best, easy access to viewing point, cafe, toilets and children’s play area.

Nice Views and good for kids to play in park. Food in restaurant too fancy for kids and some adults who are looking for nice homemade Scottish food.

New facility opened at the end of June 2018 owned and managed by the local community. Great food in the cafe and super friendly staff. We even managed to see a few salmon leaping up the Falls!
