Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm a person that doesn't like to pay money for something I don't need. So I was hesitant if I wanted to hire a guide for this. It's not on maps.me and people warned that the trail isn't obvious. So I ended up hiring a guide for me and a friend and we each paid 70-80 reais. WORTH IT!!!!! TAKE A GUIDE! After doing this hike I realized there was no way in hell I would want to do it without a guide. You could easily get lost. Especially because a good 1/3 of the way is climbing up a river bed. (It's more confusing than it sounds).

Guides aside, it is a decently difficult hike, but very worth it. The waterfall is stunning. You can swim right up to it and climb up and sit or stand underneath. Great for swimming or sunbathing.

After the waterfall our guide - Who is from the Association of Guides in Lencois- (Go there! Not an agency- We just went early in the morning and found one for the same day) he led us to the natural rock slide. Basically it's this big slide that is smooth enough for you to go down. Be careful because my friend did scratch her back a little, but I was perfectly fine when I went down. It's extremely beautiful and they even have a lifeguard. It basically serves as a swimming pool for the locals- although it's a bit of a hike to get there.

If you're in Lencois just for one day, I definitely recommend taking the hike to Sossego!

Also it was about 2.5 hours up. Overall the entire day was like 8-9 hours but that's because we took a long time to swim both at the waterfall and the natural slide.

The trek to sossego leaves right out of town, so very convenient and the scenery is beautiful on the way there as well as at the waterfall. Its about a 7km trek I believe and not for those who have bad knees or are too out of shape. It can be done without a guide, but you will miss out on some of the nice natural pools and other things along the way plus there are some challenging spots. Get a guide unless you are an experienced hiker / navigator. The waterfall is a very refreshing end to this hike (before you have to hike back ofcourse!).

It took me 3 hours to get to Cachoeira do Sossego. It's very hard to get there and besides a local guide, you need to have some experience in trekking (at least has to be fit) to get there. But the scenario is indescribable: you walk along the river, in the middle of the canyon! Amazing! But once again, it's not for begginers.

Very long way to get there. 7km up on paths, rocks, most of the time clibing. If you are very fit you can make it in 2 hours, but it took me 3,5hours. At the top a beautiful waterfall with a lagoon to bath.

The waterfall is gorgeous. I went one day after a raining day and the volume of water made the view astonishing.
The trail is long (14km total) and full of rocks, ups and downs.
Guide is extremely recommended. Some adventure without a guide but I've met a guy shaking without food and water in the middle of the trail. He lost his way twice and was really in bad shape.
Go with a guide and enjoy a safe trail.

Spent the day hiking to and from Sossego Waterfall with my two daughters. Our guide was incredible- how did he know where to go? There seems to be no clear path and yet he confidently took us climbing over rocks and up hills - an exhilarating and exhausting trek.

I'm only rating this a 4 instead of a 5, because of the difficulty level. I consider myself a physically fit person, but this hike was difficult! It was about 3 hours up and 3 hours down at least half of which is spent jumping from rock to rock up and down a canyon. My knees and ankles were shot by the end of it. At least we had about an hour at the top to swim in the waterfall and relax. There were also several other swimming points on the way and way back to stop and refresh at. You'll need to hire a guide to visit this which cost us about R$130 per person.

This hike is really worth it, this waterfall is soooo impressive. You can jump off the rocks as well. But first check other people if you are not sure.

If you are in a good condition and are used to hiking I really recommend this waterfall hike if you are a few days in Lençóis.

The path is quite easy in the beginning but after an hour and a half it starts to get really adventurous as you walk in the riverbed. The riverbed is full of huge rocks and you have to cross the river 3 times. Normally crossing the river can be quite easy over the rocks, but in after a heavy rain shower in the Brazilian summer, this can get quite tricky sometimes.

On rainy days only go with a good guide ! When the river is dry you can try to get there by yourself, but pay attention on different paths. When you arrive at the end of the canyon, you are really rewarded with an impressive waterfall. You can swim in the fresh ( in winter cold ) water, you can even go behind the waterfall and there are great places to jump off the rocks. The hike itself is full of small waterfalls and huge rocks, really impressive.

Staying in Lencois we knew we wanted to do some walks in the surrounding area. We were so happy to have chosen the track to the Sossego Falls. The walk has wonderful views, beautiful river scenery and some great adventure hopping the rocks in the river bed.
Jair, our guide (you do need one for knowing the safe passage) was really good and knew a lot about the scenery, animals, geology and history of the area. You can find him at H2O-adventures.
If your up for a serious hike (about 15 km return trip), want beautiful scenery and a little bit of adventure: this is your pick!

Sossego was a gorgeous waterfall and swimming hole. Most people recommend taking a guide although I went alone - it took me 2 hrs. The first half of the hike is easy but the second is boulder hopping and climbing up through the river so if you are not a hiker definitely get a guide (and be careful if it has been raining - I would only go when it is dry). There are other watering holes to swim at on the way back to town. Only negative - i forgot my camera!
