Beautiful Sakura with temple in the background. The taxi ride is about 5-10 min or 30 walk from Obuse train station.

Staying in Yudenaka, we took the limited express train to the lovely little town of Obuse. We knew the Hokusai museum was closed as the exhibits had just arrived back from the British museum and were currently being rehung. Got a taxi from the station...More

have seen many beautiful temples in Kyoto/Nara so this one was a bit disappointing. The Hokusai wall painting of the phoenix is very nice and the room is decorated nicely. But for us this temple is only okay to visit if you're in the area...More

Temple is about 2km from tourist attractions at the base of the Mt. Ample parking and fewer steps that many temples. Great views across fields.

Rating: 4.3 stars Ganshoin Temple is a notable destination on account of the considerable strength of Hokusai's wonderful ceiling-mounted phoenix painting. The colors and style of the image are masterful and extremely enjoyable, especially once you know that the artwork was the final product of...More

Even in the off-season when the tourism buses aren't running, this temple is worth the few kilometer walk. Especially considering how close it is to Jokoji Temple as well (Jokoji, is amazing). If you get your hands on an Obuse Town Map, you should be...More
