About
The Villa Reale was built at the wish of the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria between 1777 and 1780, as a summer residence for her son Ferdinand. It followed the typical model of Lombard country homes. The building was planned by Piermarini, in neo-classical style, with a C-shaped layout and a central reception block. To these were added two lateral wings for the rooms and a further two sections dedicated to the servants and the stables. The total number of rooms was close to seven hundred.

Probably wasn't worth the trip from Milan.
Weren't allowed to see the ballroom and other rooms under renovation or repairs.
Some Formerly frescoes ceilings were painted over by a queen with bad taste.
Most rooms had no furniture and there were very few paintings or objects of art. Apparently most of these things were either looted or removed by the former occupants. Which means you get to see mostly empty rooms with nice parquet floors.
We are English-speaking. It's possible the Italians who visit, who were taken on a guided tour, have a much better experience. Thankfully, two very helpful employees tried to help us out several times when we got lost.
We visited on a Thursday and did not need to buy tickets in advance. We bought ours on our cellphones 10 minutes before opening time.

For a person who has never seen the inside of a grand estate, this is a good place to start. Beautiful rooms and lovely park setting, this estate is Jane Austin's novel come to life. As you roam the halls and rooms, you can almost see the occupants lounging. The villa was restored in 2014 and took two years to get the rooms back in their original state.
Make sure to get tickets for the entire tour. The Private apartments have the original furnishings and are the best part of the visit. Because this Villa is not so famous, it is not very busy and you can enjoy the grounds without crowds.

Monza is a very beautiful place to visit if you're in Milan. You must visit "Villa Reale" maybe the most beautiful thing in Monza. The ticket is expansive but we used tourscanner.co to buy the ticket and we saved a lot of money!

We viewed the Duomo and then walked to the Villa Reale which was about 20 minutes. We took the guided tour which was well worth the cost of €19 which included entry to the rest of the villa including the art exhibition - Monet to Bacon. The tour gave great insight to the life of the Italian Royal family. The parquetry floors and marble baths. Running water and heating. This was one of the first locations to use electricity in Italy after La Scala. Milan had the second power generation plant in the world after New York. Another enjoyable day in Italy.

This perspective driving to this royal palace is really impressive, much better than Schoenbrunn in Wien. The facade is imposing, yet very stylish and not bombastic - this was built by the Italian architect Piermarini as requested by the Empress of Austria. The garden is simply beautiful, with a rose garden that was very nice to see in May and a nice restaurant.
On the contrary, the visit to the interior was really uninteresting, with only a few, partially restored rooms, in a very unpleasant nouveau baroque style of the late 19th century. This was the poor contribution of the then-reigning King of Italy and his wife, the only Italian royal couple to use the palace (also inhabited by the Austrian governor and by the son of Napoleon).
Would advise to take the time to walk around, stroll around in the park and leave, without wasting your money for visiting the inside, unless there is a temporary exhibition you may like.

I will start with this is my first trip to Italy, but I must say the renovation of this 700 room palace is exquisite. We were staying in downtown Monza. It is about ten minute walk from heart of town and located in a beautiful park which were the original grounds of the palace. Walking up from the side entrance and you will likely be put off as graffiti covers outside walls and it looks a bit run down. (Do yourself a favor and swing around to main entrance to come inside ) Once you get in grounds things change From outside its not the most colorful. The place was built in late 1700s as summer palace / estate to watch over Milan by Austrian emperors of day who had controlling interest. There are three ways to do it - 10 Euro for 2nd and 3rd floor self guided tour, 10 for guided first floor tour - royal apts and ballroom I think - and 19 for both. I went on a Wednesday around noon and not wanting to be tied to guided tour, did 10 2/3 floor which includes smart glasses audio/ visual guide for 2nd half of second floor. WOW! It is magnificent. First, maybe it was just luck, but I spent 2.5 hours there primarily on 2nd floor and literally had the whole place to myself. The detail, especially the vaulted ceilings / frescoes / paintings and intricate inlaid floors are incredible. Room after room had different things to see, and you get great views out of windows on all sides of palace. Doing first half without smart glasses and then second with is a nice way to build. Audio/ visual gives great history of palace and explanation of each room. No furniture remain in rooms but smart glasses provide more detail. I did both parts and then second again without glasses so I could take more photos. All personnel very friendly, speak English, and smart glass tour can be had in multiple languages. There is an area to sit and watch video in Italian that shows more of place. Allow at least two hours I would say - smart glass tour is 40 minutes alone. There are elevators in spots but you will be doing a fair amount of walking. Third floor is an art gallery but you can also see a lot of the bones of the original structure as well. They don't really tell you what third floor is - I did that in about ten minutes - not like classical art, might be rolling exhibitions - don't know. Once done on 3rd floor you have to exit a single way that like any good museum tour leads you straight to book store and adjacent cafe, which is apparently very good. I think first floor guided tour is likely very good as well and I think rooms have furniture in them. Definitely a must see if you come to Monza.

There is a Steve mc curry exhibition at the moment which is certainly worth visiting, it is amazing
The bar is overpriced and the service is bad .
A pity as it certainly spoils the overall experience
