We bought this trip for our friends 40th birthday and went on the 31st August 2024
It was a fantastic day out and amazing value for what you get. The Gins are lovely...we continued drink them at the distillery after the train journey 🤣 and then bought a few more bottles.

The whole thing from start to finish was brilliant fun and so well run. The staff were amazing. Our friends brought their 3 large dogs who were all allowed on the train and the staff were brilliant with them.

This a trip that we would do again and recommend anyone whose thinking about it to book it. We were lucky with the weather - which just topped the day off.

We stayed over in Leyburn which is a lovely little town with fantastic pubs...we stayed at the Black Swan who were also really welcoming

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday lunchtime. I booked this experience for my girlfriend’s birthday….memories are important at our age! From the moment we arrived (parking is limited), we were welcomed and given directions to next door to the beautiful station. Our reserved carriage was laid out and the whole 1 hour 45 minutes went too quickly! Beautiful gins, fabulous accompaniments …..our M and S picnic was pretty good too. Nothing was too much trouble. Just book it!
NOTE: do the quiz but a 10 minute warning needs to be given that it’s ending!

This is such a lovely day out, drinking gin & tonic whilst a train carries you through pretty countryside from Leyburn to Leeming Bar and back. Each person gets a branded glass to keep, a set of 4 miniature (50ml) gins and a spiced rum, as much Fever Tree tonic as you want, ice and garnishes. What you don't drink on the train, take home with you. Distillery staff will tell you anything you want to know about the gin and how it's made, then afterwards visit the distillery next to Leyburn station for tastings of their other spirits as well as a bar if you fancy another. There is no pressure at all to buy, but you'll want to. I now have to confess we've done this 5 times and have already booked the next!

Booked the gin train tour after calling in to the distillery many times and buying your products, the complimentary gin glasses were gorgeous and the selection of drinks, 4 gins and a spiced rum plus the appropriate garnishes and tonics, plus our own ice bucket on the table were very good value, plus of course the quiz on board and the lovely staff.

What can we say...it was SO good. Staying overnight in bedale, we caught the train from there to be ready for 12.30 departure. We found our designated table, and settled in for the experience... what a day!!! We really couldn't have asked for anything more... gins, tonics, accompaniments... laughter, knowledge, advice... it was perfect . Quick trip to the distillery, purchases made, memories to last a lifetime... we will be back. If we could have given 6 stars, we would have done!!! Bravo

We did the gin train and it was AMAZING, I absolutely recommend it! Went to the distillery at Leyburn station to sign in: everyone was SO friendly. Went to the lovely station to wait and were chatting to a volunteer station master in full uniform in the (cheap!) shop. Care and toilets available on the platform, and I’m told the train has a loo too. As soon as the train arrived we were directed to the gin experience carriages and found our table with a name tag and information. We had a picnic of snacks my sister- and brother-in-law had researched to go with gin (We needed a bigger table but that’s our own fault!!!). They brought out goody bags each, containing a gift set (4x double shot guns, 1x spiced rum), branded glass (in a box), leaflets and pen. They brought round a large box of ice, container of garnishes to match the recommendation sheet (apple & orange slices, raspberries, blueberries, pink peppercorns and grapefruit rind for each gin), bowl of nachos and then brought a constant supply of cold Fevertree tonic ( we did see them with slimline Schweppes ones too). There was a bottle opener and ice tongs on the table.

Staff were REALLY friendly, happy to chat, help and answer questions.

There really was not a thing more needed.

The train went through to Leeming Bar (took ~45 mins), stopped 15 minutes (longer would be great as it’s a lovely recreated station master house and ticket office, as well as toilets!)

There was a paper quiz sheet (hence the pen), for which everyone won a £5 off voucher. We only used one gift set per couple so had a full one to take home, with our glasses.

It really was a great trip. On return to Leyburn we walked to the Distillery (literally the same building as the station!) and the same staff told us about it, with samples of spiced rum and rhubarb vodka (yummy!), which of course you can buy… (we did!). We loved it.

Also we were pleased to see this was a grey and yellow diesel with a ‘Teddy Bear’ diesel and carriages, as supposed to the Pacer cars we’d had on a previous trip that wouldn’t have suited the event as well. And of course the beautiful scenery… (Leyburn is so high it has terrific views across the Dales)

I recommend the perfect trip is staying at The Haven B&B (5 min walk up the hill: you don’t want to be the designated driver!) and tea at the Sandpiper (a shockingly affordable Michelin restaurant half way between the station and The Haven). 🥰

We did the gin train experience. Would highly recommend it. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. And naturally we had to go visit the distillery on the way out to purchase our favourite tipples!

Loved the fact that we got a rum sample is our experience kit to try as well. It was very tasty. Highly recommend!!!!

We went on this gin train experience recently. We arrived at leyburn station to be checked in by the owner of the gin making distillery. We got on the train and were seated on a reserved table which had our name on it.We were given a large glass, four different double gins each and a double rum in a box in little bottles. We were also given a bucket of ice, nibbles and some pieces of fruit to add to the drinks. Finally we were replenished regularly with fever tree mixers either tonic, lemonade, cola and ginger ale.
The train went to leeming bar approx 40 mins away and stopped for people to stretch their legs for 15 mins. The train then left and returned to leyburn. We had a quiz provided on the train and visited the distillery to purchase some of there spiced rum.
The day was very well organised by the gin company and they were very pleasant to deal with. This is a must for gin lovers and rum lovers.I would take some snacks on board to eat whilst on board such as crisps, nuts, pies pasties etc purchased at local bakers in leyburn.
Absolute great day out and so well organised, highly recommended.
