Favourite walks in the area

No matter what the season, the walks are always enjoyable and accessible. Quietest first and last thing in the day.

My favourite dog walking place. Well behaved dogs and owners only please! This is a lovely unique place. With lovely staff. A quaint hut in the woods teashop. Gorgeous gorgeous acers. Lovely lake. But visitors, especially with dogs, please respect the space.

This is one of the best NT sites I have visited. It is really peaceful and also a good place to see a wide variety of trees. The boathouse is unbelievably peaceful - sitting on the porch looking out over the lake. If it were not for the occasional shouts of over enthusiastic children (and sometimes their parents trying to... More

Thanks very much for your kind review and useful feedback, Paul. I thought you might like to know that we are embarking on a new re-labelling project at the moment, to make it easier for visitors to identify the trees they see. I'll also make sure your comments about covered seating are fed back. By the way, the huge coppiced... More

We took our 2 year old here in the autumn. He really loves splashing in the puddles. Be aware that the car park can be particularly busy on lovely autumnal days however it's never crowded once you get it.

I cannot believe having been born and brought up in the area I have finally visited Winkworth Arboretum. This is after I had left the area around 20 years ago. After slobbing around after Christmas having eaten far too much I needed somewhere to go to blow the cobwebs from between my ears. Being the number one place in Godalming... More

Given the fantastic colours this autumn (2016) we perhaps came a week or so past its best; nonetheless, it was still beautiful, with great walks and array of birdlife. Sitting in the boathouse looking out over the lake was really lovely, though our dog had to be restrained from heading towards the wildfowl! All the staff (paid and/or volunteers) whether... More

Love this place - it's a great walk (hilly) and the trees are incredible. Every time I go, the view changes. Fantastic autumn colours two weeks ago. Yesterday it was white with powdery ice - amazing. If you love nature, it's all here - including ducks and swans on the lake!

I have been a National Trust member for about forty years and must have visited here at least six times [maybe more]. I am always finding new places to walk and new views. A viewing point has been added and some of the wetter parts have better walk ways. I swear the climb to highest bit is getting steeper, or... More

We were greeted by very helpful staff at the entrance. We enjoyed strolling around and chatting. The leaves had mostly gone by late November, but it was still a very pleasant environment, with great views.

We are NT members so try to visit somewhere every week, we choose winkworth as we had not been for a while. The colours were bright, there are a number of different walks for different abilities, it was quite busy when we went, we had to queue to get in. I would like to see Dog bins around the park...
