We had a 1 day private tour of historic and modern places . Graeme was a great tour guide and went out of his way to make sure we could easily see things. My husband was having a hard time walking because of a bad fall, and Graeme got us to the door of Sterling castle and in through the easy ways to everything inside. He also made it easy for us to visit the other things on our tour and took us to a very nice pub for lunch. He’s is very knowledgeable. We highly recommend him.

In 2019, I began planning an adventure for me and one of my best friends. We both love Outlander so when we decided to go to Scotland, we knew we wanted to do an Outlander specific itinerary. I started the search for tour companies and stumbled upon Scottish Terrier Tours. And from the initial reaching out process, the owners, Graeme & Tracy were warm, attentive, and helpful. They put together an amazing 4 day itinerary based on places we said we wanted to see while also using their expertise to add in more places they knew we needed to experience. We were meant to travel to Scotland in May 2020 but we all know how that turned out. They were amazing about rescheduling. And now, 2 years later, the trip was finally able to take place. We flew to Glasgow and awaited our guide. We were told our guide, Hugh, would pick us up at our hotel. And from the moment he arrived, it was pretty much love at first sight. Just like the company he was representing, he was warm and lovely from the get go. And he also had us dying laughing more often than not. Our guide, Glencoe…oh, I mean Hugh (sorry, we now have inside jokes with him) is a wealth of information about all things Scotland. We learned so much along the way. But we could also just chit chat about any and all topics as we drove along the Scottish countryside from place to place. To say Scotland is beautiful is an understatement. It’s a magical place. And having someone who so clearly loves his job and his country made it that much more of a special experience. One of my favorite parts of traveling is meeting people and finding out how they live their lives. Forget the Dos Equis guy! Hugh might just be the most interesting man in the world. We loved hearing about his world travels & getting to hear about and then see some of his most beloved spots in Scotland. I could do on and on and on. That quote about how traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer, is so very true. I love making new friends while abroad and creating an international family. My friend and I both feel like Hugh is now a member of that family. And none of it would have been possible if not for Scottish Terrier Tours. I am so grateful to them for planning the best four days of fun! It was very hard to leave Scotland. But I know I will return one day! So if you’re looking for a tour company for your trip to Scotland, do yourself a favor and book with Scottish Terrier Tours. Thank you Graeme, Tracy & Hugh! A piece of my heart now belongs to Scotland!

Our group of four was picked up by Ian from our hotel in Edinburgh and we headed to the Isle of Arran. Brodick Castle and Gardens were beautiful. Next we traveled to the Kintrye peninsula by ferry and stayed in the nice Stonefield Castle Hotel. Off to Campbeltown and the Linda McCartney Memorial, castle ruins and beautiful scenery along with several small villages, Saddell Abbey ruins, a Gin Distillery before our destination in Oban. Next was Isle of Mull to get to Fionnphort to ferry to the Isle of Staffa with a dolphin escort we landed to see hundreds of Puffins nesting nearby and the walk and climb to Fingal's Cave, Then to the Isle of Iona for the wonderful and inspiring Iona Abbey, museum and cemetery. With each stop our host Ian provided snacks and drinks and plenty of commentary. The next day we headed out stopped by The beautiful St Conan's Kirk and the Falls of Dochart before stopping at Inveraray Castle and Gardens, a stop in the village of Inveraray overlooking the port on Loch Fyne and a walk to The George restaurant for drinks and a delicious dinner with a great atmosphere. After getting back to Oban to meet our next host and driver Ricky to continue our adventures. We started the day with Ricky by driving up to McCaig's Tower overlooking the town of Oban and its harbour before leaving Oban behind and heading north toward the Isle of Skye. We stopped at Dunstaffnage Castle ruins and then to Glenfinnan Viaduct to watch the Harry Potter train traverse the viaduct. After a stop in Mailaig for lunch we headed out for more castle ruins and the beautiful Silver beach of Morar. No trip to this area would be without a stop at the ruins of Eilean Donan Castle. We made it to our hotel in Kyle of Lochalsh. The first full day on Skye was tour the rolling hills to the Fairy Pools with the hike along a beautiful stream. The weather was Scottish. Beautiful waterfalls and a stop at Taslisker Distillery an a wee taste of their product. We continued to Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, home to Chief of Clan MacLeod. We continued up the coast to Trumpan Church ruins and the Flora MacDonald Memorial. passsing though some stunning views of landscapes, ruins and waterfalls. And oh the Scottish weather, four seasons in four hours. Before heading back to our hotel. We started our next day visiting The Skye Museum of Island Life, a dinosaur museum, viewing the Old Man of Stor rock formation along the Cuillin Hills mountain range following by the Kilted Stone and waterfall into the sea. We next head for our one day on the Isle of Lewis and Harris. As we arrived by ferry in Stornoway, first stop a Harris Tweed shop. Then off to see the Calanais Standing Stones, the weather today is sunny and beautiful. Next it is a quick stop to view Carloway Broch, a historical stone dwelling. We make it to our hotel in Stornoway to find Lews Castle and Gardens across the street. Yes we did a quick walk before dinner. We are up early to catch the ferry back to the mainland at Ullapool and off east to Urquhart Castle. No Nessie sightings on Loch Ness. We did manage to find Tordarroch. The area near Iverness that was part of the Shaws ancestral home. Then we made our way to our hotel in Inverness where this journey ends. I know I may have missed a ruin, waterfall, or some scenic view but I do know that the memories and conversations with Ian and Ricky will always be with our group. These two and the Graeme and Tracy team are beyond our expectations. If you rate them a 5 it should be a 10. We already have started planning our next adventure And Scottish Terrier Tours will be part of it. Thank you from the bottom of ours hearts.

My friend and I came to visit Scotland and we booked a 4-day tour through Scottish Terrier Tours. There are simply not enough words to describe how amazing our experience was. Our tour guide, Hugh, immediately made us feel at ease from the moment we met him. He personalized the tour to our interests and even made suggestions that he thought we would enjoy as the days went along. There were thoughtful touches at every turn. Snacks and drinks were left for us at just the right time and we never felt rushed to get through all the places we wanted to visit. He also knew we loved Outlander, so he thoughtfully planned for us to see some of those sights on our last day to end the trip on a special note. Hugh always drove us along the scenic routes that would let us see the beauty that the Scottish Highlands has to offer. We learned so much about the history of Scotland and we were so impressed by his knowledge about everything! The sights, history, and beauty of Scotland were incredible to experience, but the best part ended up being the connection we made with Hugh. We started off as tour guide and tourists but ended up as wonderful friends. He made our experience in Scotland so special and we will never forget it! PS: Hugh is the best tour guide EVER! Love, Tay-Tay
