Overview
More
Can Mario is the Fundació Vila Casas Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Palafrugell (Costa Brava). It was opened in 2004. It has around 220 works on show dating from the 1960’s to the present day by a wide range of artists born or living in Catalonia. Temporary exhibitions are also held every year. Can Mario was a cork factory dating from the early 20th century and was one of the buildings of the Miquel & Vincke cork company. Today it is a place for contemplating art situated in the Plaça de Can Mario, where we can also find a modernista water tower and the Cork Museum. Sice April 2011, 33 sculptures by artists from the Empordà region of Catalonia have been placed in the Jardí de Can Mario, as permanent, open air exhibits. In October of the same year the Sala Empordà was opened in the Museum, for holding temporary exhibitions of artists from the region.

Totally recommended museum. For a very cheap ticket you have a wide collection of contemporary sculptures. Permanent collection and temporary exhibitions that surprised us. Good quality artists. If you go to Barcelona we also recommend you Can Framis (contemporary printings), from the same fundation.

Very interactive museum that's set out in a very intelligent way. Went with two very energetic children who were entranced with the exhibits for two hours. Definitely worth doing. Adults are €3, students and over 65's 1€ and children free.

There are a lot of art foundations... But the fundacio Vila Casas is my favourite...everytime I come to the costa Brava or Barcelona á visit to the musea is a ' piece de resistance' of my 'feel good' experience

This is a big surprise museum with lots of modern sculptures to discuss with your family, some you'll like, some not, as is always the case. Only 3€ for an entrance and with that you get a discount for the other two musea in Palafrugell.
