Pienza is my favorite small Tuscan village and the Duamo on the square is great both inside and outside..

The Duomo is among several striking buildings surrounding Piazza Pio II. There is a perfect harmonious shape to everything here. To one side of the small but beautiful square is the Duomo. The interior is well worth a look. The whole area is so picturesque. We roamed the narrow streets and visited some cheese shops. It is a quiet and... More

This cathedral was commission ed by Pope Pius ll and built in 1459. If you are looking for it, it is next to the town hall. The church is known as the Jewel of The Ideal City.

This Duomo is such a step back in time. The inside of it is beautiful. We had the pleasure of speaking to a priest while we were there and he provided us with some wonderful details about it.

A section of the Duomo is currently under construction. You are able to go in, take pics and sit. It is beautiful to see.

Neither exterior nor interior will make it unforgettable I'm afraid - there are simply dozens of more unique sacral buildings in Italy. Just for a quick look. Currently under partial restoration.

Pienza was designated a protected Unesco monument in 1996 for its beautiful architecture and city-planning. From the Duomo square one can walk through the streets and look at the beautifully preserved houses that look like a picture post-card.

Although with labors due to physical space rehab it's no doubt a place to visit and admire the huge columns and renascent overview of how they build the church. Pienza its a place fantastic to visit and for sure, spend a whole afternoon enjoying of the small and narrow streets and beautiful terraces to have a coffee!

As far as church's go in Italy it's not top of the list of must see's. However, saying that it's definitely worth going if your in pienza. I only paid for the church admission and decided walking up on the walls wasn't that appetising when it was baking hot at 40c or more
