We didn't get a chance to spend a lot of time here, but it was one of the highlights of our trip to Madeira. Such a unique and gorgeous place. Swim in the protected lava pools while the sea crashes all around. Just magical.

After eating our lunch looking over the pools we wandered along the front to get a better look at them. The sight of the waves crashing over the lava rocks is so impressive on what was a nice sunny, but chilly, day. It would be nice to visit again and actually try swimming in them - maybe one day.

During winter time the sea gets rough and crushes against the rocks. The natural swiming pools are closed then, as the waves overflow most parts of them. This spectacle needs to be watched.

The natural pools looked absolutely breathtaking. I could just seat there and watch the waves for hours but wouldn't dare to go in during this time of the year. The water was really cold and at times quite rough.

Natural lava pools with some walls built to hold in more water. Whole area renovated with a few houses needing some paint. Nice area to walk around. Possibility to access area (with fee) with access to the sea

Was very heavy swell and lots of rolling waves so didn't swim but on a hot summers day this would be fantastic. Pools refreshed twice daily by the high tide. Tide and waves would have washed us out to sea when we visited as a bit stormy

A beautiful place to visit and a must see. The views are amazing and the water was so nice to swim in. It was all very clean and well maintained and is something you must visit in Madeira.

I went all over a long trip to reach here and it was just OK nothing special and i had a nice ocean swimming pool closer to my place too. It was just OK. I know some ppl like it more but i think it didnt worth me spending 7 hours in a trip (go and come back)
