Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice little walk on a boardwalk. It's free, wheelchair friendly and there's benches to sit down on

Wandered along the river and wondered where the white bridge went and found this little gem. Very well looked after with a raised circular walk around the island.

A lovely little haven of peace and tranquility and paradise for nature lovers - birds, butterflies and dragonflies to name but a few. Walking distance from the market place and shops and close to St Ives Bridge.

Found it by chance. Worth a visit, and you can wander around in under half an hour if nothings happening at the time. Lots of native plants to be seen, but the wildlife on the day we visited was limited to a couple of ducks

Until recently I did not know this was a nature reserve.
Reason; I have some nephews in this locality, we regularly visit, and every time we went for long walks, which feature around St Ives, and we took this particular route past "an island", I was informed they had camped on this island many times during in their Scouting years.
Consequently I would not have appreciated anyone having boisterous scouts being in the same position as an important nature reserve.
It made my smile when I learnt it was such the case.
We live and learn.

Enjoyed a pleasant wander through the reserve taking in views of the River Ouse and sun-drenched boardwalk and shrubbery. This is a popular place to visit and enjoy time with picnics and there are plenty of benches to sit down at. You can see the flood plains and the area is a short walk from the Norris Museum, High Street and St Ives Bridge.

A great place to visit and wander through, full of nature. A good place to keep children occupied for a short time.

An island in the River Great Ouse on the edge of St Ives, once a hive of activity growing willow for basket making and shipping it down the river to market. Now, maintained by volunteers, it is a haven for wildlife with a boardwalk round the island and lovely views across the flood plain to the historic town - itself worth a visit. Numerous picnic tables and bird watching points. Usually open at weekends from April to September, but at other times a key can be obtained from the nearby Norris Museum. Admission is free but donations are invited.

A pleasant spot by the river in St Ives, Holt Island used to be a commercial willow growing planting. Now the island is a sanctuary for wildlife with the willows and reeds providing a home for birds, butterflies and dragonflies. There is a boardwalk around the island with good views across he river and to the floodplains on the far bank. The day we visited there was a demonstration of basket making techniques. There were also activities for children over the weekend with butterflies. It is close to the parish church and museum - a pleasant 10 minute stroll from the high street.

The nature reserve can be most easily accessed from the main part of the town via the churchyard of All Saints. It is a superb little reserve and has well formed paths on boardwalks. At the time of visiting there was no one else there and this added to the serenity of the place. It affords beautiful views of the river and gives an outlook on the backs of a number of riverside dwellings that are not possible from the road side. There are informative notices along the paths. Well worth a visit which will take about 30 to 40 minutes.
