The maiden stone is one of those simple attractions that will enhance your interest in historic Scottish relics, like the stone circles that seem to abound in this part of the country. The folklore associated with this stone is fascinating and like many other ancient...More

We eventually found the stone. Google maps suggests it's in the grpunds of Pitroddie House. If you follow the signs off the A96 towards Chapel of Gairoch and Pittrodie House hotel you are heading in the right direction. However do not take the road to...More

This would have been really interesting but unfortunately the stone was in its winter hibernation (covered up) when we visited.

The Maiden Stone is a well known and iconic Pictish Stone. Located in a nice setting not far from Bennachie, this roadside stone is worth a visit.

Stopped to stretch our legs at the maiden stone. Lovely old relic from our Pictish past. Always very emotive to stand next these ancient pieces of history. Lovely.

This pre Christian stone, has fine carvings that so far have lasted over 1000 years. It's a great example in a very accessible location.

Today we went to the Maidenstone but it was completely encased in a green metal cover for 'winter hibernation' the sign said. It also did not say when the cover would be removed . It is being protected from further deterioration apparently.
