4/8/17 Did not receive any email response. Went to Coldeco visit office, and they have a sign up saying all tours cancelled. We talked to a woman there who said she had no information on when the tours would resume.

Chuquicamata is an impressive place to visit. Its eerie abandoned town (or what remains of it) is an incredible place that takes you to the time when miners lived there. The tour to the mine is also a must, as the huge scale of everything...More

This is a free tour but you must reserve in advance with the mine's tourist desk (not city tourism). Your hotel can make the reservation for you. The guide was really good and informative. It was really interesting to learn about the history of the...More

The world's largest open pit mine that is just unbelievable. It is 5K by 3K and 1 kilometer deep. The trucks that take out the stone for processing are just fascinating. Perfectly proportioned by the tires and 4 meters (13 feet) high. If you have...More

Visited long ago. but loved the story about the little truck, that used to shuttle between the mine and the Nitroglycerene hut: The drivers, risking death oin every bump in the road;;;;drove on. Because that was the only option they had.

A bit out of thew way if you don't have business with the mine but it is something to be seen. It is by excavated volume the largest open pit copper mine in the world and it has been producing since late 1800's!

I called the booking office number and I was told that tours should resume in August 2017 (I don't know if it is supposed to be at the beginning or the end of August).

Had booked a tour months ago, and confirmed it recently. But tours were discontinued. Wish they had told me, as this was a main reason to visit Calama. Pit operations are finished. Its underground work now.
