Since Sunday was going to be warm and nice, we decided to go a bit west and visit this castle as it has a gorge attached. We got a pleasant welcome from the caretaker, the shop is nice and the toilets well maintained. This castle...More

Walked here from Crossford. Great views of the castle through the trees. The castle itself is amazing, tunnels, a really unusual defensive caponier (castle nerd alert) and really worth visiting. Didn’t drive but a large carpark available. This is in my top 10 Scottish castles...More

Good size car park and short walk to impressive looking castle, with helpful guide. Castle has an interesting history and provided lots of nooks and crannies to explore, good number of plaques giving information and grassed courtyard area where the dog enjoyed the chance to...More

Craignethan Castle ruins is worth a short visit if in the area. Inexpensive entrance fee and i would say no more than an hour to explore. Wouldn't travel a long distance to visit this castle ruin Probably 3.5 stars......
