- Gareth P4 contributionsWorth travelling to but could be more user friendlyAs others have already said, the caves are superb. It’s €12 per adult, 10 for kids, you buy a ticket at the gate, drive down to the car park, and wait for a boat. It’s about 20 minutes long. We couldn’t book online, and the phone wouldn’t connect, but gave it a shot. We were on a boat after what was at most a twenty minute wait. This was thought in April when tourist numbers are low, so may be much busier over summer. Parking was interesting! When we arrived the car park was full, and cars were parked up the road. Whilst they took up half of it the remainder had a pretty significant trench running along it. This made getting in a bit precarious. We managed, it did subsequently clear, and a small bit got filled in. You might though want to park near the gate and walk down.Visited April 2023Written 10 April 2023
- Ori S5 contributionsNice CaveThe cave was really pretty. The stalactites were beautiful to see. It was also really cool to see them reflecting in the water. Our guide was nice, an excellent skipper as well. The staff however barely speak English and they made us wait quite a bit. Explanations are in Greek only.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 May 2023
- SenoritaSuzieCapeCod817 contributionsAmazing cave systemExcellent tour of the cave system and definitely worth seeing if you’re in the area. We have been through many caves over the years and this cave was unique and magnificent! So fun to see it all while in a small boat with a small group. Loved it! We simply bought our tickets at the ticket booth this afternoon and didn’t have to wait at all for the tour. Many reviewers had suggested purchasing tickets online in advance, but we didn’t wish to be tied down to a schedule. After you purchase your ticket you can drive further down the hill to park. We parked on the side of the road as the lot at the base was small and quite full and would likely be a difficult place to turn around. Anyway, Diros Caves are highly recommended! Enjoy!Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 June 2023
- Ellen Lorentze ... SOslo, Norway5 contributionsIf sold out online, you can buy tickets on site!As tickets were sold out online we didnt think we would be able to see the cave on this holiday, but drove down in the afternoon to ask if it was possible to purchase at the desk, and it was! You can only buy the same day as you are to go inside. We got four spots on the last boat of the day, and waited about 10 minutes in total! Beautiful cave system, crystal clear water, and a lovely retreat from the heat. Would have loved to get some information from the boatsman, but there we are. Highly recommend going!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 July 2023

I heard another boats were just in silence for all the trip. About 25 minutes. Go early, read another reviews, the lines are crowdy under the sun. Osman handled the vessel very well. We had no problem with queueing but again we didn’t choose to go when 2000 other people were going in July and August. It’s like anywhere else in Europe you going in peak season you’re going to have to queueVisited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 September 2023

The caves are a wonder worth seeing! When we went, the ticket office said that the excursion was limited because of “high water” with no knowledge of when the full excursion would resume. We were discouraged from doing the tour. However, we opted for the short tour - and the cave did not disappoint! Incredible formations. We had to wait about 30-45 minute for enough people to fill the 8 to 10-person boat, and the tour was probably 30-45 minutes.
Favorite moment - when the boat pilot dropped us off in the middle of the cave and headed back the other direction! Stranded, in a cave, with only 8-10 of us to wander at our leisure!

The caves themselves are amazing...a lovely wonder to behold.
The boat ride is great in and out of the various parts and well lit... a great tourist attraction........however the guide on the boat was very rude and aggressive to my wife to the point he and myself got into an argument on the boat as it was going round the caves.
I had read some of the reviews before and just dismissed them....belive the reviews!!.

I visited the caves 25 years ago with my young family when I lived in Greece. A must visit whilst in Mani is a visit to the magnificent caves. A return trip was at the top of our itinerary. Our guide on the boat couldn’t have been more rude, aggressive & obnoxious. He tried to blame each of his mistaken manoeuvres on his guests & barking orders at them to either move or not put their hands out of the boat, during our hurried & frantic tour. When he announced we were at the halfway point of the boat ride my heart sank. I just wanted it to be over. The walk after though the wonderous caves, guide free & at our leisure made up for the terrible experience of this appalling guide. Avoid a slim man with a grey ponytail. He has to be the worst & rudest guide in the world.

How to evaluate something you can't see. If in years 2023 they can't facilitate the ticketing process in high season with the image of 30, 40 and 50 people sitting in the sun for 45 minutes or more... what can anyone comment... If they can't manage attendance electronically and are limited to 100 electronic tickets as a result of this confusion in the issuance of physical tickets, the people in charge simply resign. I came as a father with my 7 year old son to get to know the beauties of our country and after we did several kilometers, it was impossible to stand in this heat in the unacceptable conditions that have formed. Gentlemen, ladies in charge... you are a disgrace to the country and one of the causes of its disrepute. Shame and only shame.

We have explored many limestone caves over the years and this was one of our best and most unusual experiences. These are beautiful caves. There is a lake inside the caves which is filled with crystal clear water. So we explore the caves riding in a boat with a boatsman at the back using a paddle to move us along. In places the passage is very narrow and the boat hardly gets through and in other spots you have to duck your head. The formations and colours of the stalactites and stalagmites are varied and spectacular.

Surreal experience of natural beauty. Serene, enchanting and great value. It’s easy to find, safe and lasts about 20 mins total. Value for money at €10 per person. There are steps to get to the boats and then as you are dropped off more steps to return to your starting point. Not a lot but could be challenging for someone with walking issues or a pushchair would make this very hard.
Sandles are fine to wear we had flip flops on and we’re fine. Just take your time as could be a little slippery when wet.
Each boat probably holds 6 adults maybe less. Your given life jackets you do not get wet though, you can take cameras but not video cameras. Do not bring big bags with you you won’t need much ,it’s cool in the caves so if you get cold maybe wear a jacket or bring something with you.
If your tall you will likely need to duck if you’re scared of small spaces this may not be the your for you. Some moments are tigger as you travel through tunnels but it is truly breath taking and very cool for as long as they can operate.

Have the Caves of Diros closed (it's March 2023 when I am asking). The website seems to indicate a closure.

Find their website, it's not allowed to post url's
Here you can find all informations.
I guess it's open since they call low season from March 1 till April 30.
You can also call them, better than e-mail them, and ask.
Hope this helps

Hi, they look yous temperature and you need a mask . Because of COVID-19 they follow the small journey (20 minutes and 40 minutes that is a normal ) the price of the ticket is 10 euros and you take the ticket only there . The time entrance is 08:30 - 16:00. It is better for you to come early in the morning there because in the normal time before Covid-19 there was a lot of people there . Enjoy your trip

Depends on the water levels. Best to ask your travel agent as waters get very rough in November and d3c

We are traveling by sailing boat around the area and we have a medium well behaved dog use to traveling in a boat. We could not leave her behind if we take a hire car to the caves and we could not leave her in the car as it would be too hot. Would we beable to bring her in the boat ride in the cave?
JOre666

I don’t see it as a problem because the boat ride is very smooth but they might refuse. It might be best to ring them to find it out. Alternatively you could potentially tie your dog to the outdoor cafe area.
What is the temperature inside the caves?

We were there mid May and temperature was 18 degrees in the caves... very nice no sweater or jacket needed.

Are the caves suitable for a toddler (22 months)?
Tammy0364
Berlin, Germany75 contributions
No. It's too long (minimum 30 mins), in some parts quite dark, the toddler would have to sit on a wooden bench (no back rest) without moving for all that time. And you cannot change your mind in the middle of the ride, it's all water & caves. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a minimum age for participation, although they seem quite lax about some things.
