Perfect for fun ride, not suitable for racing.

The route is very safe to ride. Not much traffic. The view is great. Guide map is very clear. However, I would not recommend anyone to come here and race each other.

Quite possibly one of the highlights of our trip in Japan. My husband and I were fortunate enough to have sunny skies and cool breezes when we went to visit Onomichi and cycle. The bike path was clearly marked with signs everywhere. It was also very calm and peaceful to ride the bikes with hardly any cars around. The people... More

Absolutely beautiful and easy route for all levels of cyclist. It's a route that links a few islands via bridges. The views are spectacular and the route is mostly flat. I would suggest a 2-day schedule to finish the 70km route from either Onomichi to Imabari or vise versa. This is my first bicycle trip and I fully enjoyed it.

The whole trip was amazing. The cycling was a blast, the bridges and the views were fabulous. Stayed overnite on Omishima Island at a place called "Sawaki" Ryokan, highly recommend it. Definitely want to do this trip again sometime!

A very enjoyable and challenging ride! We started at Onomichi at about 7.30, hired our bikes from a rental just inside Onomichi port - they were simple 8 speed Japanese bikes and cost 1000 yen and a 1000 yen deposit that you only get back if you return the bike to the location where you hired it. They were perfectly... More

I thoroughly recommend this trip ... fantastic bridges and small towns and industry ... all of Japan apart from big cities! nb if your not (a) fit (b) get a reasonable bike (c) start early then you'll need to stop a night on one of the islands.

My partner and I rode the Shimanami Kaido over 2 days but you could DEFINITELY do it in 1. I am by far not a very fit person and I found it easy enough. Fantastic experience and sense of accomplishment. Amazing views and look into the real culture and day to day workings of Japan. Highly recommend this if your... More

This one of the harder rides I have ever done. It wasn't the climbing it was the heat. Luckily you can stop at stores and machines everywhere for refill on water and ice. Great scenery but remember in Japan it rains a lot and the humidity is quite high. The cyclists and motorists were all polite even with large number... More

I cycled about 30+ km out from Omomichi and then returned. Fantastic day. Great scenery and a good bit of exercise. The bridges are tremendous feats of engineering. Onomichi I enjoyed too - a small port town. The trip on the local train line from Omomichi to Hiroshima is also worth taking.

IF you're looking for one of the best cycling experiences every, look no further. The pictures don't do it justice, and you can't live the experience by me telling you about it. However, this 80+Km bike ride is an experience I'll never forget. The best way is to take the train to Imabari (I live in Matsuyama) and ride from... More
