The rest stop along the pier is a nice stop to find a wide selection of locally produced items from Abashiri. The staff are helpful and some speak very good English, making it easy to understand what would be good to bring home from Abashiri.

This michi-no-eki is clean, really informative regarding the Abashiri area, and has plenty of area souvenirs. It has lockers available for those who are boarding the Aurora ice-floe cruises that leave from the same building, and a few additional lockers for others to stow luggage...More

A good place to start when visiting Abashiri. Provides valuable information. Book a boat trip. Good facilities.

This roadside station has a wide range of local souvenirs, including seaweeds (dried kelp, mostly for dashi), sweets and interestingly local beer. The tourist information corner is quite limited. It is a good walk in the snow from the train station but worth it. Some interesting souvenirs that cover top spots in the area. Very good snack bar that sells amazing drift ice soft serve ice cream for 350 yen. Also happy and enthusiastic...More

Very well located at the mouth of a river. Small shops for food, drinks and souvenirs. Also a small tourist office to make bookings etc. Very friendly and helpful staff.

On the second of September 2009, we visited Abashiri station. The town is famous for it's prison of the past. They have maintained the prison as a museum.
