We were unfortunate in our trip that a storm cell had been crossing Hokkaido and bringing high winds and dumping snow so no sea Eagles were to be seen on this cold and windy day. I think on a fine or less windy day the...More

Set a little way off the coastal road, this was a pleasant enough place to spend a few moments enjoying the scenary of the sea and countryside with the backdrop of the lighthouse. The car park has a public toilet.

My wife and I drove out to the Cape of Notoro to see the frozen sea. We saw three Steller's eagles soaring overhead and could see Mt Rausu to the east. On the drive back to Abashiri we could see the Shireitoku peninsula range with...More

We’d hired a cab to drive us on a tour of Abashiri and asked to visit the lighthouse as part of our tour. We saw Steller’s Sea Eagles on the way there and also saw one soaringly over the cape. Nice views of the sea...More

We arrived here one cloudy day close to sunset and there was nobody here. What a bleak landscape ! The drive up to the cape was also beautiful with the ocean on one side and hills on the other. We walked around all the paths...More

Took a short car ride to the cape from town and it had beautiful views of the sea. There's a lighthouse there and there were big open spaces where you could walk around and take beautiful pictures on a cool, sunny day. Recommended to take...More

This venue was not on the self-drive itinerary put together by our tour agent. We added this and must say that we did not regret making the drive. Went at about 4pm and walked around the cape area and were fortunate to also catch the...More

Many says Abashiri has no places of interest other than prison musuem, but cape Notoro is definitely worth a visit. Not accessible by public transport, you have to self drive here and its a short 20min ride from Abashiri town.

Unfortunately the summer day of our visit was more like a wet and wild winter's day. Not much of a view and the place was a bit desolate. Cape Soya was much nicer.

Managed to drive there in time for a beautiful view of sunset there. Unfortunately it was too cold by the time we reached there but nonetheless took this beautiful picture. Enjoy!
