Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Achill Secret Garden is beautiful on many levels: its old and beautiful trees, the landscaped gardens, the colourful flowers, (happy) insects, fascinating smells, the rich vegetable gardens, sculptures ... not to mention the lovely owners. If you are vaguely interested in botany, gardening, arts, aestethics and friendly people, make sure you visit Achill Secret Garden.

We visited here today 21 June 2019. There is a for sale sign at the entrance gate. We parked in the parking bays at the top and walked down to the house. No sign of life. No signed entrance. Nowhere to pay, nothing. Very strange.

Two hardworking people have created this beautiful and interesting garden on the shores of the Atlantic. Relaxing to walk through then have a cup of tea or coffee.

This is the kind of garden where you could spend hours gazing and wandering in delight, whatever the weather. There are different 'rooms' within the garden, each with its own sculptures and other artistic creations to entice the eye; there are abundant trees and flowers, in great contrast with the dramatically bare mountains of the peninsula; there are intricately hand-woven twisting fences that are a wonder to behold; there's a meditation area, a stream under a little bridge, birdsong and butterflies fluttering, and a natural unforced atmosphere that no doubt takes great work to achieve. The owners are lovely and helpful, so do check out their website at achillsecretgarden.com and don't miss a treat for all the senses!

Uniquely landscaped gardens offering a meditative experience with outstanding art and a wide variety of seasonal local fauna. The Dutch owners are beautiful people, who run a BnB to remember. Highly recommended!

The garden is full of a variety of plants and flowers. The garden art is fascinating as well. Very peaceful walk in a garden.

As you can see from the variety of reviews, this place is not to everyone's taste, but I found it delightful. I visited in late April 2016, so fairly early in the season, and I did not stay overnight. To me the great attraction is the garden, but don't expect a formal landscape. This is instead a modernist series of "garden rooms" and I expect it will be of most interest to serious gardeners and landscape designers. The owners, Willem and Doutsje, are a friendly, knowledgeable, retired Dutch couple who have built on a found landscape to create a wonderful experience.

Visited here during the summer. We were staying in Achill Sound. We arrived at the gate, drove down the driveway and arrived at a cottage. There were no signs telling us where to go, no one came out to meet us and frankly we felt like we were trespassing. We knew the entrance fee was 8.00 each and didn't fancy dropping €16.00 after the lukewarm start. We hung around for ten minutes and headed off.
