Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another of Puglia's "white towns" this is a charming little place, with narrow streets and alleyways. It has a small central square with bar, restaurant, gelateria, chocolate shop. Lots of side-streets to explore. Very photogenic place. Loved it.

A wonderful village with hundreds of intertwined dwarf streets. Everything is very clean, the houses are marvelously touching and otherworldly.

It is really worth slowly losing oneself in this labyrinth.

Excellent adventure in this small Puglian town. We went for the weekly food and clothing market, but were so pleased to discover this relatively hidden historic center. Only a few narrow alleys lead you into the heart of this whitewashed maze-like center. Once inside, it is fun to just wander and get a bit lost on dead end streets. Don’t worry, it’s small and easy to reorient yourself pretty quickly. There are several good restaurants and gelaterias in town, as well as some small piazzas and churches.

You could spend the whole day here exploring the labyrinth of streets with bars and restaurants to stop along your way.

Pretty town, reminded me of a Medina in a town like Tangiers, not that there is the hustle and bustle of an North African town, but the white houses winding narrow streets, archways, external steps to the second floors evoked memories of Tangier

once you are in the pedestrian area this is one of the great white towns of Puglia. All the better because it seems not to be on the tourist track, so is not crowded. No one special thing to see, but just a nice place, and a far better experience than nearby Alberobello.

This was our favorite town in the region. Charming and quaint with local stores that felt much less touristy than what we found in other towns. Local clothing, meats, chocolate, art....a beautiful park/veranda that looked out over the valley. It is small but absolutely worth a visit. We were there at sunset and the back edge of the town is bathed in glorious light -- it is magical! We did encounter a rather unsavory chap who followed us around and kept trying to take our cell phone with the offer of taking a photo for us. We kept declining but he then got in our faces and became angered which was quite scary. It would certainly not deter me from visiting Cisternino, but it is just another reminder how to make sure to be on guard when traveling anywhere.

I hesitated to write this review. I don’t want to see the town overrun with tourists. I spent a whole month living in Cisternino to recover from a heart issue. The town is delightful, safe, and lively, and, as is always true, it’s all about the people. You’ll feel welcome and loved. The shop owners are delightful and helpful, especially the produce man next to Terra Madre (yum, BTW) and the toy shop owner and his mom. The owner of L’Era gelato opened the store one day when they were closed because we communicated we would die without his gelato (who knows what we said on Google Translate). I loved Baol and whosever mom worked there! Sorry I’m leaving people out. The police never ticketed or towed our badly parked car (a Renault named Kadjar that ended the month with a long scar down the passenger side from the ceramics town historic district). We rented an apartment from Francesco so we could stay in the middle of the historic district. Delightful! And quirky! Torre Canne with its beach and Al Buca is 20 minutes away. Don’t miss Zoofari nearby. Cycling here is amazing. We visited a number of nearby towns; Cisternino is the BEST place and the perfect base for the area. We ate here every evening; terrific restaurants with a variety beyond the famous meat (which we only ate once).
Just what the doctor ordered. I ❤️ Cisternino. Now, please don’t ruin it!
