Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The rocky beach by the Castello seems to be the only one in the city. It is small, with crystal clear waters and a combination of sand and rocks. It runs along the defensive walls of Monopoli.

Stunning walks by the seafront throughout this amazing quiet town. Allow plenty of time for stopping and contemplating the views.

The water is obviously very very clean; and its feels like an really great wild-sea where you can swim in, that is somertimes so quiet it feels like the carribiean. Monopoli as a city is charming but tend to be a bit crowded during the season, so beware of that, yet it have remained a place of calmness and i loved to swim in this sea. Its super convient as when its crowded just minutes away there are more beach-acces places where you can swim around. Good for out of season.

If you came to Monopoli for huge sandy beaches, you were wrong. You won't find any, at least not in a walking distance from the city center.

But this one will do.

It's small, usually crowded, but the water is extremely clear and nice. Going for swim here for a few reprises will certainly help you enjoy Monopoli more (which by the way it's a spectacular city you shouldn't miss).

Ps: Don't expect any showers so better be prepared to stay with the salt on you.

We arrived in Monopoli both under the impression by our Airbnb host and also from a tourist information office person sat 10 metres outside Monopoli train station that there were ‘long sandy beaches’ in the city. Oh how this couldn’t have been more untrue.

Unless you have a car or plan to ride 5 km on a bike to ‘il capitolo’ (personally wouldn’t consider that to be the same location as Monopoli) then you can forget it.

Dressed in sandles, and carrying multiple beach bags, fresh off the train from Polignano A Mare, it’s fair to say a 5km bike ride was never an option, not that we knew this at that point.

Having consulted the friendly tourist information guide, we headed towards Monopoli’s harbour/ old town, where we had been told that the sandy beaches awaited. What we were greeted with was a collection of about 3/4 horrifically overcrowded, small, disgusting beaches. Settling for the 3rd of these for no reason other than desperation having walked for over half an hour in sweltering heat, we noticed cigarette butts, glass and other rubbish littering the sand.

The only saving grace was the water quality which was nice and clear- no idea how this is so given the state of the beach. We lasted about 45 minutes before making a swift exit to find some lunch. The old town itself and surrounding streets are beautiful and well worth visiting but as a tourist looking for long sandy beaches this certainly isn’t the place. Having said that if all you are looking for is a dip to cool off then Monopoli can cater for that.

Easy walk from the Old Town, with car parking nearby. This lovely sandy beach is full of bathers during the warm summer months and is located near a very lovely promenade too.

We stopped for a swim at this delightful sandy beach while strolling around the streets of Monopoli's historic centre. The beach is on the south side of the city wall.

Cove of the first landing in Monopoli from the south. It is appreciated for the calm of the waters even on days of rough seas. The beach is a few meters long with sandy shore and on the south side there is an islet and articulated rocky coves. Even the temperature in the water is mild compared to the following ones and also to the springs which in places have colder temperatures! Since the beginning of May, the most daring holidaymakers from north-eastern Europe have been venturing into the baths and swimming. Practically from the white paths of characteristic stones you enter the well-kept and clean old city.

We spent five fantastic days in Puglia and couldn't have chosen better accommodation. Arianna's welcome was very efficient and friendly. He gave us great suggestions for where to go for dinner. The property is located a few meters from the beach and the center of Monopoli. Breakfast is included at the bar in front of the b&b. The cleanliness is impeccable and the rooms are comfortable and bright.
