Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Google Maps will guide you to the parking lot without any problems (€3).
From the parking lot you are inclined to follow the crowd towards the coast,
as it is not indicated which path leads to the Cava di bauxite.
The coast is also beautiful and very volcanic, but the most beautiful colors are still there
at the Cava (on the way back, follow the crowd again and you will arrive at the
Path leading to the cava). Not visible from a distance but hidden behind the trees.
Beautiful pictures taken (sun in your back) of the color palette.
All in all, a nice distraction for up to 2 hours.

The view was spectacular, very particular, worth a visit for a nice photo. Then you have to continue in the walk to the sea where you get to a beautiful cliff, here you can also swim (beach Orte), we found a very strong wind otherwise we would have taken advantage. Close to the sea there is a beautiful restaurant L'Orte where we had a nice beer overlooking the beautiful sea.
To get to the quarry you arrive in a few minutes from Otranto, you park before the path along the road but they are not delineated parking lots, when you form the line of parked car there is no space for two cars in the opposite direction.

It's a wonderful, wonderful place. From the photos it doesn't reflect what it does in reality. The lake is turquoise and the bauxite around it gives a very bright red color creating very particular contrasts. At the bottom of the quarry, on the lake, you can admire the birds flying skimming the water. Absolutely worth seeing.

The colors are really striking in a significant way. From red to cobalt blue. A true oasis, a precious stone set in the living rock. Nature, sometimes aided by man, always surprises.

The view was wonderful. It is a fair hike to the area where you can see it. You have to park in an area where you pay 3 euros and then walk up an incline for a good 15 minutes till you get to an area which says private. People were ignoring the signs and walking to the view. Wear good runners or boots to climb the area to see the view. Great photos were taken.

Very nice location few tourists (thanks to the current heat) the landscape with gradients of ochre colors are very beautiful. And parking at 3€ allows access to the site in 5/10 minutes on foot. 😂 Do not hesitate to go for a walk off the beaten track in order to find magnificent viewpoints you can contemplate the landscape opposite while listening to the song of the cicadas.

Place to visit, if you are in the area I would dedicate an hour of your time to it.
It feels like being on the planet Mars.
Parking is convenient and is 200 meters from the lake.
Parking €3 all day, free entry to the lake.
Suggestive landscapes and very different from the usual with its bright colors.
We weren't convinced to go but we did well!

Interesting to see, & the colours are very vibrant.
You have to pay €3 to a guy in a caravan at the parking area. Not really worth €3 as you won't be there very long.
Be warned - there are no signposts!!! We made the mistake of continuing straight, & it brought us down towards the sea. Nice view, but it was absolutely roasting, & took about 20 mins!
So - instead, if you only want to see the quarry, walk about 5 mins past parking, on the track. You will come to a wide area, with trees on the right, up a liitle hill. There's a track to the left, or right, for a longer walk around the lake.
Or, do what we did, & go straight up, over the hill, to a high viewing point. See my photos.

Very suggestive landscape. Beautiful colors, the contrast between red and green is spectacular, but... There are no directions to the viewpoint, everywhere there is no access that we have respected, doing three kilometers in the sun and then being forced to violate the access ban. Is it possible that you can not put some indication ??

CAUTION!!!!!
I was there after it rained at night and slid down the slope, the result is a concussion and a broken wrist. Be careful when it's wet there, my otherwise non-slip hiking boots have done no good. Otherwise, the pit is not really spectacular either.
