Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you visit Sicily and go to the town of Catania you should go to this spot. There a few things to see here and a couple of others near by. First there is the Cathedral of Sant' Agata. Also there is the Fountain of the Elephant. It's a Roman statue that is now the symbol of the city. It is very very close to the famous fish market.
Also a couple of neat cafes that you can sit and enjoy the setting.
A great op for something close is the ruins of a Roman amphitheater. Go a couple of blocks west on Emanuele and The Teatro Romano is on your right. It's no "Colosseum" like in Rome but it's pretty cool.
Go a couple of more blocks west to Quartarone and turn right to see the Church of St Nicholas. Climb to the roof. Pretty view of the Volcano Etna and the coast.

Nice bar opposite the cathedral. Good gin and tonic with lots of gin! Good atmosphere but can be noisy.

I have to start by saying this entire town was an amazing surprise to me. I really happened upon it because I was too tired to continue all the way back to Palermo. This town is gorgeous - just like this piazza. Also similar to this piazza, it feels so safe, so off the tourist track. The geometric design making up the floor of this piazza is so cool! It looks like it was made by a spyro gyro kit! I was here on a Monday evening, this piazza had a decent amount of people milling around, sitting around. I just sat and watched the entertainment. A couple of kids were biking around. The beautiful Chiesa Basilica Collegiata dei Santi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo is East off the square. The Santa Maria Del Suffraggio Acireale is on the North side of the square. Take a peek inside of those beauties!

A lovely big piazza with not one but two impressive churches, one is the Cathedral and the other is just as impressive. Beautiful baroque both inside and out. Wonderful works of art inside both churches. Highly recommend a visit.

Come and take some photos of the Duomo and the lovely buildings surrounding this square and enjoy some beautiful views of the sea. Cafes and restaurants surround you, as do lots of souvenir shops. Popular.

This proved to be one of my favorite places during the Christmas Season. Christmas music resonates throughout the center of town. There are small kiosks which sell hand crafted Christmas gifts. Numerous pastry shops in the area. Overall a very beautiful area that allows you to relax and get into the spirit of Christmas.

The Duomo was spectacular with wonderful frescoes and paintings but make sure to call into 'The Caffe del Duomo' for their amazing granita. Acireale is where granita was invented and I have never had better. It comes in pistachio, almond, chocolate (all three very delicious), strawberry, lemon and coffee. Beware that the coffee is very strong unsweetened espresso coffee. A real treat and very inexpensive.
