Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

…this Porta Reale or Porta Ferdinandea marks the entrance to Noto!!…a real triumphal arch!!…it was designed when it became known that the king of the two Sicilies was coming to the city!!…and precisely Ferdinand II of Bourbon!!…the creator of the work was a Neapolitan who also built the statue of Ferdinand…which then became a monument to the fallen!!…the Royal Gate was restored about ten years ago!!…but yes It is truly very important and regal!!…a nice business card for the city of Noto!!…

As it is at one end of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele III and as most of the main attractions of Notto are located along this avenue, you'll probably, if not certainly, pass by this gate.
And whichever end of this avenue you'll start, you'll reach it since I believe you'll walk the avenue all the way.
You'll also probably stop for a minute, admire it, take one or two pictures and then go on.
By the way, make sure to stop at Caffe Sicilia and have there one of their famous special cakes or a granita.
You will avoid the embarrassment back home, when asked if you've been there to answer that you've missed it..
All the way on this avenue you'll see and maybe stop at the Cathedral, Palazzo Nicolaci, Chiesa Santa Chiara, Palazzo Ducezio, Chiesa San Domenico or Convento San Francesco d'Assisi all'Immacolata.
So many things to do and see on Corso Vittorio Emanuele III, and it starts right here, at L’Arco di Trionfo, Porta Reale o Ferdinandea

Were walking towards our parking space when we found this, realy impressive with the long road in the background.
The thing that realy cought our atention, was the statue of the dog on the monument - a pelican, a tower and a dog - which looked like a kind of hound.
After much looking and thinking, we asked one of the locals if it is a "levrieri"- greyhound. No, it is a Cirneco, a Sicilyan breed of hound, used to hunt small game.
Great sight, with a interesting story, worth a look or two.

This is the entrance to the old town, and the last possibility of parking the car (not for free, though).

Porta Reale is nothing to go out of the way for, however it is inevitable you will find yourself walking along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, therefore unlikely to miss it.

Erected in 1838 for the visit of Ferdinand II, (1810-1859) it was built by the Marquis of Cannicarao at his own expense, by architect Orazio Angelini. There are two coats of arms on the inside, these belong to the city of Noto and the Cannicarao Family.

Only one side has embellishments - Tower, representing strength: Cirneco a Sicilian dog, for loyalty: Pelican, which has various interpretations including, Christian symbol of Christ sacrificing himself for man: generosity: rejection of the city towards the king: self sacrifice

One observes many visitors entering Noto without giving the slightest attention to the detail of Porta Reale.
At the top of Porta Reale one can notice three symbols which refer to the allegiance to the Boubon monarchy. One can observe a dog which represents loyalty; a tower representing strength; and a pelican representing sacrifice.

If in Taormina or nearby Siracusa - do not miss taking a trip to this small town of NOTO. Awesomely beautiful baroque-style town w/ incredible churches to see. Porta Reale is the main street to walk down and see NOTO. You can park just before the arch (along the street) and walk into town thru Arch along this street. Enter and Visit each Church u see on both sides of street as u walk down. U will not believe! Also, street has plenty of cafes, shops also to stop and enjoy a break, drink, espresso or bite to eat!

We just started our visit of the city from here. Nothing much to say about it after visiting so many places you just don't get exicted from this sort of monuments anymore.

It is a simple archway, similar to many others dotted around Sicily. Its beauty lies in its simplicity rather than relying upon overelaborate decorations.
