We visited the Abbazia di San Galgano last Summer in August. This year we came in October. It is stunning to see the cathedral in different seasons. Its outstanding beauty, the light, the colours so different. A serious of events planned in and around the cathedral throughout the year. Lovely places to eat in the area. A visit one shouldn't... You have to read the background info before you go here. The sword in the rock and the bones are in the church. Also, to visit the monastery there is a small fee but it includes the museum that is a short drive away.

But not worth a special detour, only if you are in the neighborhood. Seeing and moving on is completely enough.

We visited San Galgano in September for our wedding, the place is unspoilt and sits proudly in the middle of a picturesque italien landscape. There is a gorgeous little wine bar overlooking the grounds and it's perfect for a picnic and well worth taking a few hours out of your schedule to visit and admire.

Really pretty historic buildings (there are 2 - the Abbey and the cathedral). There is a small restaurant and gift shop - the food was very good, authentic and the price was right!

This place is really impressive! We were in doubt if passing by or not but luckily we decided to include it in our trip. It definitely worth a stop. Pity that we couldn't stay one night or at least one meal at the Agriturismo next by.. it would have been surely a nice experience. Definitely recommended!!

This abbey was a must see on my list when planning our tour. We arrived quite early and spent almost three hours there. Even though it is derilict and roofless, without the usual opulent finishes, it is a place of serene beauty and peace. A photographers dream and most definitely a place to visit!

This a nice ruin on a hill. well kept and worth for a short visit. one could walk up to the small church up the hill or go by car. also this church is worth the time. Follow this by a trp to the old storic little town Chiusdino. you will be surprised how many different levels have been accomodated... More

I came by bike early in the morning and the atmosphere was absolutely magic. I suggest to come in the first hours of the day to get the whole charm from this piece of history. ticket is not so expensive and it allows you to the museum in Chiusdino a well, which is not so unforgettable to say the truth...
