Excellent tour, revisiting the last royal dynasty in Portugal. The guided tour revealed some stories about the way of living of the last kings and royal family of Portugal. Very well preserved and with a lot of history, this is definitely a must visit monument in Vila Viçosa.

I an a well travelled Englishwoman and have spent many an afternoon at a national trust property. This place is quite disappointing and to me all the interiors looked very grubby. The entrance fee is very small compared to places in the U.K, at only 6 euros and I wonder how many visitors they get to pay for restoration work.... More

Very Interesting Museum. Especially as this is where Catherine Wife of Charles II came from. The gardens were lovely too. It is right next to the Pousada we were staying at.

So disappointed when we arrived 5 minutes late for the tour (last tour was at 4 and none of our 3 guidebooks mentioned that we would not be allowed in after 4) as that was the last tour. All the books said til 5. Gentleman at ticket desk today 10/2 would not let us join the last tour. And then... More

We were unable to make the English tour, so we tagged along on the Portuguese tour. It really didn't matter, as the well informed guide blew through the palace at a rapid pace. To his credit, he gave the English speaking tourists an abbreviated explanation. It's a very impressive site, and if you are in Vila Vicosa, it's a must... More

Interesting visit with a guide who only speaks Portuguese (so you have to master that language a little). No other possibility to visit. Most interesting part of the exhibition were the photos, unfortunately one didn't get much time to visit.

The scale of the place is very impressive especially from the outside. Inside you only get to see relatively small parts of it but they are the important parts and give a great impression of how the former Royal residents lived. Unfortunately no photography is allowed. The formal gardens are also very impressive. The Palace is well worth a visit.

A very pleasant, informative, educational insight into the life of a simple Royal dynasty that ruled a simple country, small and beautiful, yet a bit too complex. Visit the lot and you will most certainly enjoy the experience. Worth the journey and the time.

When the Portuguese King and his Heir left to go to Lisbon on a morning in 1908 they little knew they would never be back. The palace wing has been left with his clothes, hair brush etc for all to see. It is a beautiful palace and particularlyt poignant with so many personal items still there The adjacent coach house... English guided tours start at 11:00 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and last about an hour. The palace is well laid out and well maintained, although the ceramic floors do squeak a lot from rubber-soled shoes.
