- Mark GDieppe, Canada555 contributionsBeach frontThis is located approximately 15 minutes from porto. There are metros than run there. Lots of local and franchised restaurants. Nice beach and pedestrian walkways along the beach. Funny enough, was 36c during the day, but needed a sweater and pants there at night.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 October 2023
- Kris T143 contributionsIndustrial viewsThe beach is a 20 min ride from Porto. The beach itself is not bad per se, but the surroundings are unassuming and I felt the rise was bot worth it. I feel like the beach near Foz was much nicer, but perhaps Matosinhos is good for surfing. As a regular beachgoer, I wouldn’t make an effort.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 23 April 2024
- Thomas VOakland, California17,565 contributionsClose to the PortThis beach is very near the port, so it is also close in to the city. There is a big expanse of sand, so plenty of room to lie out and enjoy the sun. Not sure about the water quality as the beach is very close to the industrial port.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 June 2024
- BonnieRed850Huntingdon, United Kingdom574 contributionsGreat contrast with the city of PortoLess than an hour on the Porto Metro or the local bus, Matosinhos beach is very different from the crowded streets and intensity of Porto city centre. The town Itself is far more modern and spacious, but the only reason to visit is for the beach. The water looked lovely and wind-surfers and bathers rooked to be having a great time under the close attention of the lifeguards. There was a proper beach-culture going on, but what was noticeable was that the wind was stirring up quite a strong cloud of dry sand blowing along the beach. A small price to pay for the great views over the Atlantic. My personal favourite area was among the rocks on the walk back towards Porto.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 June 2024

We arrived at Porto on the 4th day of our week long European cruise Early August 2022. I was with my partner, his sister and her family and we took the short bus ride from the terminal instead of the longer bus journey so I don’t think we were at the central part of Porto where most tourist go but decided to stay where we were. It was quite a misty day but we sat on the beach for a bit. Seemed to be plenty going on and things to do if you wanted to spend the whole day. Seems like a good beach.

Visited this beach while staying in Porto. Easy to get to by car and to find parking. We did go on the early side. Nice mix of Sandy stretches and rocks to climb and explore. There is a neat pool surrounded by rocks and its own beach . It costs between 5 and 8 euro’s depending on time you go.

I've spent two weeks surfing in Matosinhos this year, one in June and one in late Sept,
The beach is long and sandy perfect for the ones that don't like pebbles and rocks.
There are few places where you can eat and drink or rent a surf/skateboard.
During summer the beach is quite busy but once the school starts again, not so many people around, just surfers! 🏄🏄🏄
The water is generally clean, with lovely fish close to the beach but once in a while, if you're in the water, you get the nasty smell of the big ships that are docking at the port

I visited in July and I do not recommend this beach.
In the first place, it is not endorsed by the environmental authorities as a beach suitable for swimming. Therefore, there are neither lifeguards nor any kind of surveillance.
The beach is extremely crowded in summer and people access it with their dogs. I even saw a dog pooping in the water.

The beach was very beautiful and clean and close to the metro station “ Matosinhos Sul” . It’s very easy to come from Porto old town and downtown. I also recommend the bus number 500 if you want to see the most beautiful road of Porto. Take the bus from Se cathedral to Matosinhos.

Beautiful beach not far from Porto
Definitely worth a visit. There’s a fab beach bar right on the beach which sells food, ice cream, beer etc. The sea front swimming pool is well worth a visit too. Easily reached by an Uber for around €20 from city centre or about an hour on the tram. Supermarket five min walk and a McDonald’s too.

We went on the Yellowbus to Matosinhos, so its easy to get too. You can also take the Metro or local buses. Nice long beach, between the Fort and the shipping port. Nice and clean, and plenty of activities going on.

This is well worth doing. The promenade walk is really excellent with great views of the ocean. The power of the waves on a slightly breezy day is amazing especially at the Porto end of the promenade.
The walk is 2.5 miles for the whole distance which is well worth doing. Lots of stops along the way at seafront bars.
Really recommend

Hi,
Am visiting on cruise ship with mum who cant walk far so am taking wheelchair... how would we get to beach?
Is there a café right on beach? are there any sunbeds/shade! thanks
Written 21 August 2022
Hello, it's a very big beach, fine sand, very cold water, I also had a swim on the beach near the port, there is a cafe/restaurant, you can't enter but I'm barefoot, instead I didn't see sunbeds and umbrellas for the beach, it's not path to the water, only sand, instead about 1 km from the port to Castelo do Queijo the road is closer to the beach, there are solutions, and I'm sure you'll manage.

Hi, Alan. What would you like to know about this attraction?
Written 7 April 2017
Matosinhos Beach is a big attraction to this city.
Apart from the beach itself, which is visited along the whole year particularly during summer, there are other things to do and sightsee.
Water sports (surf and bodyboard) are on top of the list and close to the beach there's the marine ... sailing or scubadiving is up to you (scuba diving requires advanced scuba course);
Close to the beach there are dozens of traditional restaurants where you can eat the best fish in the world!
Finally, our recent star ... The Cruise Terminal! (check it in the internet).
Better come and see for yourself!
