Lovely reserve, the staff found a chameleon for us, my first chameleon in the wild, fasinating. Easy to walk round on the boardwalks, and there are various hides to watch the wildlife from. It is a shame these hides were covered in juvenile graffiti and a fire had been made in one of the bins, it's a pity the locals do not treat the place with the respect it deserves. Also you need to watch out for cyclists riding on the boardwalks, clearly they do not understand the "no cycling" signs that are displayed at the entrance, but then when do cyclists ever respect road sign and traffic rules!!

A centre built to have low visual impact at the edge of the sand dunes. The design is a copy of round houses with grass roofs in south africa. Inside you can watch 3 films (with subtitles in 3 european languages) on the history of the corrales - walls build in the shallow seas around Chipiona - possible in Phoenician times. They are designed to trap fish and shellfish - which can then be easily harvested. At one time each corrale could supply an income for 3 or 4 families. They started to degrade in the 1970's but have more recently come back into use. Also 2 films about the protection of chamaeleons in the sand dunes, as well as teh protection of the dunes themselves. Benito, who runs the centre was extremely helpful, informative and courteous !

We were the only people visiting, they seemed very pleased to see us. They found 3 chameleons outside for us to see. There is a presentation whic explains the life of the chameleons, the importance of conserving this bit of coastline and explains the coracles which is an old way of fishing. The presentation is in Spanish with French subtitles. The information on the display walls which repeats much of the presentation is in Spanish and English. We were really glad to have visited. It is free.
