This building has nearly the whole history of Gothic architecture in its fabric. One excepts the earliest Northern French, but everything else is here, even the transition towards the Italian renaissance, and the beginning of the baroque.

An example of an old, splendid gothic cathedral. Just one as you may find only in Spain. You need to pay an entry fee but do not hesitate - it deserves the expense!

A quiet and peaceful cathedral without the normal crowds and with enough to see to keep us interested for an hour or so. The carved limestone screen behind the choir was particularly beautiful. The only negative was that nothing was written in English, nor were any English speaking tours offered.

We didn’t have to discover “the undiscovered beauty” as the cathedral is well-known in Spain, so we had placed it on our must-see list before arriving in Palencia. We first circled the cathedral with its multiple entrances and tried to figure out where the main entrance was. Since a mass was going on when we came in, we postponed our... More

Spectacular building with some lovely features. The huge wooden doors were very impressive, made an impact as they were quite plain. The rest of the cathedral is very ornate in true Romanesque fashion, which I found detracted from the fabulous building. One of the most interesting features is the crypt which I thought was stunning, perhaps because in contrast it... More

The cathedral is beautiful well worth the entry fee of Euros2.00 per person. My wife and I also had the pleasure of a private tour with a retired priest of the diocese who happened to be there at the time we entered - a charming man. However, you should be warned if you are British and the lady at the... More
