We booked tickets in advance for Neeltje Jans as we had planned a short holiday to the area especially to see the Deltaworks. Unfortunately there was only one 'all inclusive' ticket option, even though we did not wish to see the animal park or kids attractions. When we arrived, we were informed that the boat tour was not in operation that day, and we could not visit the sea gates. Nobody warned us in advance, even though they had my contact details and the place was almost empty. Our visit consisted of watching two videos about the flood and the Deltaworks (one in a language that was not ours, as the waiting period was 2 hours for the next viewing), and walking through the 4D experience. Although the video and small museum display was interesting, it was not worth the exorbitant ticket price. If you are interested in the sea gates, you'd be better off looking them up on Youtube and cycling alongside the N57.

On the website i thought it looked amazing, but i really dont get how they charge you 25 euro a person as an adult, its shameful. I paid 40 euro for me in my son and i feel conned.
The park is bad, the spaces for the animals small and the waterpark was just a small area and not as spectaculair as on yhe pictures/website, we have that across the road of our house and pay 7 euro for that.
I spoke to more people there and they all felt the same.

You can visit the inside of the deltaworks together with a guide who gives details and information about the history of this modern world wonder of engineering. The park is not only the deltaworks but also a waterplay park for kids, sealshow sealio show, aquarium, information about the flood disaster in 1953. For the guided tour you need to pay 3,50 euro extra and a boattrip on the Oosterschelde is another 4 euro extra. All by all It's pretty expensive specially in autumn and winter because some parts of the park are closed.

I've never written a review before. But on this occasion I decided to make an exception. We paid the princely sum of 20 something euros each to visit the Delta Works Neeltje Jans park as a fun day out with our 15 month old and the Grandparents who were visiting from the UK. The park is just diabolically awful. A complete waste of time and money. The whole place has the feel of an outdated theme park that closed down twenty years ago where no one has done any maintenance ever since. My husband aptly described it as some 'wasteland with a few decrepit bits and pieces scattered around to fill it up'. I just don't know where to begin to describe just how crap this place is. All I can say is, don't waste your money. Do the following instead: download a documentary on how the delta works were built (there was a good one on telly not that long ago and it was fascinating). Then make some sandwiches, drive to the Delta Works and park the opposite side to where the park is (by the sea). You can park for free there and walk along the top of the flood defences. It's lovely walking next to the sea. and then you can access the flood defences by climbing up to the bridge. You actually see more of the flood defences by walking along the free path at the top than you do from the museum. That's what we did a year ago and it was infinitely more enjoyable than being fleeced 90 euros plus another 7 for parking, only to find that there is almost nothing there other than a small dirty pool with a couple of forlorn looking seals in it.

We visited the Delta works today (as it is commonly referred to). Both myself and my boyfriend are crazy for this kind of engineering marvel so we were very excited about the trip. Sadly it was average. The park is very much geared for children, and is a bit run down so if you have kids it would be a little bit more enjoyable. But we did not care about the seals or water slides we wanted to see the actual engineering. As part of the admission you get a cruise ride around the delta works. Well I am from NY and if this boat got any further away from the delta works I swear I could have seen the Statue of Liberty. It was a real let down, to see the Delta works, but if you want a 50 minute cruise around the water to soak up the sun, it is nice. We did really enjoy the opportunity to walk up to the delta works and climb and go inside of one of the structures, but for 18 euros plus 6 parking it is not something I would not do again.
The beaches around the park are free and great with wonderful views for free.

We wanted to see this amazing, colossal feat of engineering up close. You can drive the four-lane highway over it and take an exit to an access road for a close look at its exterior. But the only way you can get inside of it to the exhibit explaining everything you'd want to know about why, when and how the Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier was built, is through the Waterland Neeltje Jans entertainment park.
Even if you were there with children who might enjoy the few, mediocre "attractions" such as a seal basin (empty), modest whale exhibit and a 3D film made when animation was in its infancy, this place is way over-priced. It cost two adults 36 Euros to do a self-guided tour of the sluice gates exhibit--a tour which even my technology-driven husband covered in less than 20 minutes. Coincidentally, a few weeks prior to this trip, we saw a TV documentary about the Delta Works which was far superior to what the Waterland had to offer. Save your money!

The Delta Works is such an important and impressive piece of engineering for the Netherlands that you would expect the Neeltje Jans to be a state-of-the-art Family Park. Instead it's an utter disappointment! I have no idea how some people can rate this park three or even four stars. While the waterpark and aquarium may not be the worst, they are far from impressive (certainly not worth 16.50/22.50 EUR pp). Most importantly, this park should have a function to also educate, especially young people, about the Delta Works and it fails horribly at that. The expositions haven't been updated in the last 20 years, there is a fat layer of dust and dirt on large parts of the exhibition, films are from the seventies (kind of funny, but rather dated and not exactly interesting for young kids) and the whole exposition looks extremely messy and chaotic. I think the Dutch government should do something about this place and take it out of the hands of ASPRO as they don't seem to appreciate the importance of the Delta Works and Neeltje Jans itself.

If you don't recall what museums were like forty or fifty years ago, this place will bring it all back to you. Endless descriptions that are difficult to read, quaint old photos pasted on boards and positioned so as to be especially difficult to study. Odd little doors to open and then see, hear or ponder a part of the story of the great flood protection system that was built over a forty year period from the 1950's onward following the great disastrous flood of 1953 that wiped out much of Zeeland.
The story is an important one - especially today as the world faces rising sea levels - the Dutch can teach us all how to survive if we listen.
This is a large exhibit desperately in need of modernizing - in fact it looks as though it were lifted from an old building and deposited here in this relatively modern building. The story is too important not to be told well - and this is not a good presentation. It is disjointed, no timeline is followed, you wander from exhibit to exhibit, from Roman times to today without any chronologic sense.
You should see it - recognize the incredible technological feat that it presents - an incredible project planned and built without the benefit of today's computer-driven environment.
But you, like me, will wish it were better done, the story is so significant. This is a third rate exhibition of a first rate story.

We took a visitor from Ethiopia to show him around the Delta works and tell him about the expertise of the Dutch people to protect our country to the rising water of the sea.
Absurd high entrance fee 22,50 plus 7 euro for parking and another 3 euro for a short boat trip on the Ossterschelde. This meant 30 +euros and a rather disappointing exposition. No value whatsoever for a lot of money!!
Luckily my husband has a technical background so he could tell our friend the ins and outs of the storm surge barrier!

We were quite interested in the delta works and were happy to see the real stuff, but the park is only there to rip you off. You have to pay 22 euros pp for the pass for all the eclectic exhibitions, which include explanations about the dam as well as a whale exhibition, « the blue reef » and a wind rotor.
The film and the exhibition seems to be dating back from the 80's, which there certainly are, and we haven't seen such a bad museum for years. Everything is broken and the explanations unreadable.
As for the blue reef it is a mere aquarium with two sharks. As they also organize shows with sea lions at certain times of the day, it might be good for small kids but certainly not worth the entrance fee.

Waarom mag je het park wel verlaten om even weg te gaan en krijg je een stempel op je hand, maar als je even elders gaat eten mag je niet meer terug? Terwijl je de hele dag geld uitgeeft in het park, allerlei extra's doet en voor betaald, maar toevallig niet in het restaurant gaat eten en ook niet kunt eten vanwege een speciaal dieet. In het ernaast gelegen vistestaurant bv. nee! Je mag niet elders gaan eten.
Volhouden zo, dan komt er een mement dat jullie het moeilijk gaan krijgen!!

Wij hebben gehoord dat het eigendom is van een Spaans bedrijf. Waarschijnlijk gaat het dat bedrijf alleen maar om zoveel mogelijk winst.

No, and I find that very dusturbing. And ridiculous. The whole thought is to learn and educate about the Delta Works and what water can do. Specially now with a rising sea level. But they made it into a very bad amusement park. Looks awful on the outside and when you walk in it is not much better. The old Topshuis and it's maquette of Zeeland was 100 times better.
