    Wonderful birdlife
Our first revisit for a few years, the new boardwalk is a great addition which really improves the walkability along the shoreside. We saw so many new birds for the year helped by very helpful volunteers. We were really pleased of our first sighting of a Stone Curlew at the bridleway by the exit
Good evening, Thank you for your lovely feedback. I'm so glad to hear you had an amazing time! We are very proud of our Access For All path leading from North Wall to East Hide. This opens up East Hide to so many other people who may not have been able to reach it before. It is always lovely to hear that our volunteers have been helpful. Abbie

    Great for wildlife photography.
Being a keen wildlife photographer was keen to visit this location whilst staying in the area, having not been before. I was not disappointed the reserve is extremely well kept, great facilities and hides.A wide selection of birds to watch and photograph. The bitterns were my highlight. There is a well appointed cafe serving snacks and drinks all produce is of a very high standard. Staff exceptionally helpful as you'd expect. Be prepared to walk some distances although all paths are well maintained. (My hips knew I'd been there)
Thank you for your lovely feedback! I'm glad we did not disappoint with our fabulous reserve and staff/volunteers. Sorry to hear your hips weren't happy with you! We do try our best to have plenty of benches dotted around for people to rest. But yes we are a big site!

    We saw a Bittern
Hubby & I had visited Minsere many moons ago and as we were in the area, it was a must to visit again. The visitor centre has been updated and is welcoming. It was a lovely day and we saw lots of waders, Warblers etc etc. The hides were busy but we managed to get a seat at everyone we went in. The Marsh Harrier was busy flying around and we did get to see a Bittern. The cafe does a good scone and has a selection of sandwiches etc. The shop is well stocked, and if needed you can hire binoculars etc. There is free parking which is always a bonus.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. I'm glad you had a wonderful time and enjoyed our reserve. The cheese scones are definitely a personal favourite of mine!

Great place to visit, but let down by staff
Once we had got past the 2 unfriendly men (bordering on rude) on reception, we had a good visit. It’s really relaxing to walk round and visit the various hides. Lots of bird activity which we really enjoyed, and we are not generally bird watchers. There are lots of walks that you can go on and makes a good day out. Was a shame that the visit started off in a disappointing way with the way we were welcomed. It was such a shame as generally the people we have met in Suffolk have been very friendly and helpful.
Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you had a great day and were able enjoy the variety of wildlife we have to offer at Minsmere. I am very sorry to hear that our welcome team didn't provide you with their usual high quality warm welcome. If you do find our team to be a little offhand on your next visit, please ask for the duty manager who will be more than happy to address this and ensure any additional training needs are met. I will pass on your feedback to the wider team and remind everyone their priority is to make everyone feel welcome. We hope to see you again in the future!

    Amazing for wildlife
Had a great day here always wanted to visited so stayed in the area. Plenty of car parking, reception was big and bright, if you want to become a member you can set your donation from £4 upwards, they will talk to you about membership, you can make up you mind while your there after going around and get your entrance fee back. The reserve is well laid out would recommend downloading the reserve map or take a picture when you get there as they don't hand out maps anymore. We took our time plenty of hides to rest and watch the wildlife, plenty of opportunities for wildlife photography, we saw godwits, terns, lapwings, bearded tits, reed bunting and many more. After your walk take a break in the restaurant/cafe we had the vegan and mature cheddar ploughman's absolutely lovely and tasty, them scones with cream and jam this lovely, the staff in the restaurant we're friendly. The took pride in the restaurant and seating area very clean and tidy. On the way out a stop at the shop to look around and we brought some hedgehog food, the staff again here very friendly. The overall first impression was the staff take pride in where they work. There is a boardwalk now to the east hide along the beach side so if your disabled or push chairs can get to easier.
Thank you for your lovely feedback :). I'm so glad you had an amazing visit with us! All staff and volunteers love being able to share their passion and knowledge with each of our visitors. Whether that's about the wildlife or the amazing cheese scones that are made in our kitchen. We hope to see you again soon.

One of my favourite places in the world.
The crown Jewels of the RSPB - probably easier to pick up 'ticks' here than anywhere else in the the UK. Marsh Harrier & Bittern revival superstores (bittern is NOT a given though) with excellent hides and usually knowledgeable people to help beginners in the hides. Excellent guided walks but booking advisable. Good cafe and shop, with range of optics and sensible advice. One of my favourite places in the world and I have been lucky to travel widely.
Hi David, Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. It's great to hear you we are one of your favourite place, it's mine too (although I may be biased). As you say, the bitterns don't always put on a show but when they do they are spectacular!! Yes for our guided walks you need to book in advance to save disappoint, all our events can be found on our webpage or Facebook. See you again soon!

Great day out despite the rain
Having read several reviews criticising staff I thought I should say how wonderful we found your staff / volunteers. We visited on Sunday on what turned out to be a very wet day. Despite this we had a wonderful day. We were greeted by a volunteer who took time to tell us all about the reserve and what we might find at each hide, a great introduction. By the time we reached the first hide it was pouring down. Here we met Steve who entertained us for nearly an hour by telling us all about the bees and wasps that can be found on the reserve, illustrated by his fantastic pictures. Fascinating. Our only disappointment was that it didn't stop raining for us to see them ourselves. We arrived at the bittern hide mid afternoon in more pouring rain and here a member of staff educated us on Marsh harriers and kept pointing out the harriers as the flew across the reeds, as well as showing us the baby harriers through the scope. As we were leaving we looked at the binoculars and a member of staff patiently told us about the different options and offered to let us see and try the different makes. Although we didn't buy we will be purchasing soon. Thank you all for a lovely day.
Thank you very much for your feedback. It's great to hear you had a wonderful day with us and received a great experience from all our staff and volunteers. Our team works very hard to make sure all visitor have a visit worth remembering. It's really nice to hear, despite the wet weather, that this was achieved! It's just a great shame you weren't able to experience Digger Alley at it's finest - may that's an excuse to come back and visit us again :)?

    What wonderful birds and butterflies
We were lucky to be here during a sunny June week. It was recommended by friends who love birds. We are not serious twitchers but enjoy watching them and spent a whole day here. Loved it and saw such a variety of birds and butterflies. Saw so many negative comments re dogs etc but this is a very quiet nature reserve, preserving a variety of species over a very wide area so it would be unfair to dogs as well to bring them here. Was a bit confused that people could get in via various points without paying as every penny counts to preserve our wonderful wildlife areas. Maybe this needs to be looked at.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. Minsmere has lots to offer other than birds, you could definitely get lost in nature here. Dogs are very welcome at Minsmere, but as you say the site is primarily for the conservation of wildlife and their habitats. This means there are some restrictions on where dogs can be walked. The main restrictions are along our visitor trails, however, there are lots of other trails with and around RSPB Minsmere. We do have a number of secondary access points, we hope that people are honest with us and head up to the visitors centre to check-in. We do know there may be the odd few that don't, however unless we add a big metal gate or fence (which we feel would ruin the natural experience of the reserve) then it's a bit difficult to manage. Up until 2005, the reserve was closed to the public before 9, after 5 and on Tuesdays but we want everyone to enjoy the site throughout the year :). Thank you again for your feedback and we hope to see you again soon :).

A great day out with the grandchildren
We are RSPB members so have visited Minsmere lots of time but this was the first time we have taken two of our grandchildren. They had a great time exploring parts of the site. I did feel that the pond dipping experience was rather overpriced. They enjoyed looking for birds in the hides we visited, some visitors are very kind and encourage the children by telling them what’s about and our grandson saw a kingfisher through a telescope belong to a gentleman in one of the hides. It was so kind and our grandson was thrilled, something he will remember for a long time. There’s plenty of free parking, cafe selling a great variety of things although quite expensive and a very well stocked shop. Most definitely a good place to spend a whole day.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. It sounds like your day was jam-packed full of adventure which is just what we want! We hope to see you again soon.

We booked in advance a Safari trip with a guide in a 4-wheel drive vehicle. On arrival the staff made us feel most welcome. We planned to have refreshments and a short explore of some of the site prior to our booking. However, as we left the café after a good cup of coffee and hot pasty, we accepted the offer of starting our tour early.
Our guide, Nick, was friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. Nothing was too much trouble and he matched the experience with our previous bird watching. The tour of the north part of the reserve was interesting, but there was not much bird activity on an overcast January day. However, as soon as we descended to the lower levels it all came alive, literally. Nick took us to many hotspots for the current bird population. His knowledge, enabled us to see 41 species of bird, as well as hearing a few more. He was very good at setting his scope to enable us to clearly see many birds in detail. We were not rushed, indeed our time with him greatly exceeded that advertised. Nick also made sure we finished at a hide where we had the best chance of seeing many Marsh Harriers coming in to roost. We opted to remain here, without him, and take the short walk back to the car park at dusk.
Although we have been bird watching many times in the past, we had a memorably enhanced time. One is never too old to learn new things.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a wonderful review. Our volunteers love being able to share their passion, knowledge and love of Minsmere. They want to make sure everyone has a unique and exciting experience. It's always great to see that shine through to our visitors in reviews like this one. Nick is an amazing and loyal volunteer, we are very grateful to have him a part of the team :). I'm sure he will be very happy to see that you had a great time with him on your safari trip when we share this with him. Thank you again, and we hope to see you again soon!

It was too wet to do any of the trails, but the staff were so friendly and kind, and the café served delicious vegan and meat sausage rolls and plentiful hot drinks. There were a few birds near the Centre, but we look forward to returning in better weather to enjoy the extensive trails.

Wonderful habitat. We didn’t actually see that many birds on this visit, and part of the reserve was under water, but it was a lovely place to walk and watch. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is easy and we are members so didn’t have to pay. The shop is great. Our only beef was the cafe which was crowded with people standing very close to us and which we thought everything was very overpriced ( £20 for two baked potato's with a small portion of baked beans). The choice of food is good, but again two cups of coffee and one scone came in at nearly £10.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad you had a good day despite the flooding we suffered with after Storm Babet. Unfortunately, due to the size of our cafe sometimes it can get a little crowded, especially during the school holidays, which is out of our control. Our cafe team work hard to move through the queue as quickly as possible to reduce the amount of time you are crowded. They also work very hard to make sure all the food in our cafe is locally made or homemade (like our delicious cheese scones). We are also competitively priced to match other cafes in the area. I do hope this does not put you off from visiting us again. Minsmere is a beautiful place throughout the year and I'm sure you will have a great time when ever you visit :). Thank you again for your review.

Red Deer Safari.
Absolutely superb afternoon being guided around the reserve by the brilliant Mark. Thanks Mark, for your knowledge and enthusiasm for all the wildlife we saw. The tour lasted a couple of hours as the red deer were a little elusive at first. Great views of the Stags (a 14 pointer, a 13 pointer and a couple of 10 pointers), as well as the groups of hinds. Amazing to see the magnificent Stags strutting and bellowing. Well worth the visit and can highly recommend.

Superb guided tour. David, our guide, knew so much about habitats, birds and the history of the site. Whether identifying birds, dragon flies, butterflies or fungi, David delivered his commentary with so much enthusiasm, that our visit was a wonderful experience. Staff at reception, in the shop and cafe were all friendly and helpful. We will be back soon.

I have been visiting Minsmere at least six times a year for over 50 years - not only is it the best nature reserve in the UK, but it's probably my favourite place in the whole world.

The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, there is an excellent shop and café ... but Minsmere is all about nature and the environment. It is a beautiful place to be and has a huge range of pristine habitats from woodland and heath to reedbeds and wader scrapes. These are packed with insects, reptiles, mammals and hundreds of birds.

Do visit - but make sure you have all day to really enjoy the site and take a pair of binoculars and a bird book with you.

Helpful staff, great shop, cafe and loos. All sort of options for walks and bird-watching options, depending on available time and stamina. Lovely peaceful setting and mix of open heathland and semi-woodland. Also great views over the nearby coast.

What a treat Minsmere is! I thought we'd spend half a day here but ended up spending nearly a full day. The whole site is extremely well looked after and well maintained and the staff are really friendly and helpful. We started off by my daughter being able to do some pond dipping. The pond was teaming with life, and we were super pleased to see some young newts (which we now know are called eft!). We then went for a walk around the reserve, we saw some great insects, spoonbills from the hide, and my personal favourite was a gorgeous lizard. Would definitely recommend Minsmere if you love wildlife!
