SIBU Sanctuary is located in Santa Marta - 3.3 miles from the north entrance to Playas de Nosara and 15 + minutes from Playa Guiones. We are a 50 acre jungle garden reserve, surrounded by thousands of acres of jungle and located between the Rio Nosara and Rio Montana. We are a care / rehabilitation and Step Down Release Center for the area's injured and orphaned wildlife, returning them back into the wild. Those who cannot be released, receive life term care. Please note that we are NOT a petting zoo. These animals are all slated to be returned back into the wild. No interaction is allowed. Our facilities include a non-primate / quarantine habitat, two 70ft.X75ft habitats, three stories tall encompassing trees, with movable walls to adapt to any enclosure requirement and a new 2 1/2 story tall, Step Out Habitat with movable walls.. . We offer Up Close and Personal Educational visits by ADVANCE RESERVATION only.We cater to adults who wish to know more about the plight of Costa Rica's arboreal wildlife with the effect of man's encroachment into their habitat. Children are welcome but must be supervised and at least 5 years old. Visit our web site to learn more about our Educational Visits, participate in our Adopt-A-Monkey Program, inquire about becoming a volunteer or find out how you can make a difference by making a 501(C)3 donation. Vicky and her volunteers are doing a beautiful job caring for Howler Monkeys, and other animals, that would otherwise surely die. The best part is that the sanctuary has a focus on getting these amazing creatures living independently in the wild, again. It is a selfless and loving act that is desperately needed in an area where development and negative... More

Vicki and her team are an inspiration. The care and rehabilitation of the animals is incredible. Her tour, generous sharing, video, and explanations were the best. We learned so much about Howler Monkeys and other wildlife in Costa Rica from this tour.

Although it is quite pricey, it was worth every penny. Vicky was a lovely host throughout the whole visit and we still cannot believe she have that much energy at her age. Her installations are modest and the work she do is quite remarkable. I won't say more since I want to let people enjoy their visit...

We loved loved our tour of SIBU! Vicky (the owner) and Deb (volunteer) gave us such a cool tour. We learned about how Vicky and her husband bought the land with their own funds (about 25 years ago) and have since poured all of their time and money into making it a sanctuary for orphaned animals. It is run solely... More

We've been visiting Costa Rica for years and finally found this place. Met up with a few other people for the two hour visit. Every thing was delightful-the sanctuary, the manager, the staff, the cool fruit punch, but most of all the monkeys. Well, and the small wild pig, the raccoons and the coatimundi. Well worth the donation amount and... More

We were shown around their property where they rehab injured and orphaned animals. They really do amazing work! We got to see baby howler monkeys and some of... More

If you love animals and you want to see what an amazing place two dedicated people have built up from scratch (!), then SIBU is the place to visit. On the tour (be aware: only available twice a week) you learn about the fascinating history of the place while walking through it and taking in the rich plant and animal... More
