About
The first dock in Sperlonga was built to meet the needs of local fishermen and boaters. Over the years the tourist and recreational function has become prevalent, thanks to the quality of the marine waters, the beauty of the coast (which includes the Regional Park of the Ulysses Riviera) and the proximity of the Pontine islands. A breakwater pier, which extends for 200 m, and a jetty with a curvilinear extension delimit two basins separated by a central arm, with a total surface of 19,000 m2. Two hydraulic connections between the basins and the supply of fresh water, coming from the nearby springs, ensure an effective water recirculation in the two basins. Traits of the docks are reserved for professional fishermen, boats of the Coast Guard and the mooring of boats in transit. The docks and floating docks, the latter paved in wooden planks, are equipped with turrets for the distribution of electricity, drinking water and washing water, to service the parked boats.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Sperlonga is a gorgeous Italian seaside gem. Built into the Lazio hills there are a lot of hills to walk in and out of town. Great restaurants, I did not eat bad food anywhere. The beach is beautiful and the sea is very clean where you can see the fish swimming. I was there in May so quiet enough by comparison to high season, as a result some places were closed but this did not adversely impact as plenty of places were open and a great Italian welcome was experienced everywhere. The tiny winding streets hold secret views of the sea, charming and well looked after. With no cars on the streets it is an idyllic place to spend time.

Worth taking a walk around the marina to look at all the lovely boats. There's also a nice little eaterie here too :)

If you visit the town of Sperlonga you are bound to come across this small, quaint marina located at the foot of the old town. Leading from the marina is a lovely huge, flat sandy (private and public) beach to the north, and if you head south you will find another long beach on the "other side" of the hill. A few cafes close to the marina provide places to enjoy a drink or a light meal, to relax and enjoy the beautiful ocean view.

An hour away from the bustling and busy Rome on a regional train, some people visit Sperlonga as a day trip from Rome, but I suggest to stay for a night or two at least...

This is so worth a visit. It is an easy 90min. train ride from Rome to Fondi Sperlonga station. The train is fast, comfortable and air conditioned. Once we arrived, we stayed at the lovely La Playa Grand Hotel. Very comfortable. Walking to the marina is such a pleasure then on up into the charming, ancient village full of tiny streets, only wide enough for a donkey. All the restaurants were excellent. I could not recommend this place more.

My wife and I took the opportunity to spend a few relaxing days in this delightful Italian seaside town. It has all the amenities, restaurants, cafes, shops and is in a stunning location. The sea was a sparkling vista, ideal for refreshing swims in the morning and later in the day to cool us down. The people were welcoming, friendly and mainly locals. We are considering returning later this year and would recommend this as a delightful destination for anyone who is visiting Rome but wants to spend a day, or overnight stay, away from the eternal city. Bellisimo......

The small harbor looks cute from the heights of Sperlonga "historic" town, or the viewpoints along the stairs going there. But on the harbor itself there wasn't much to do for tourists. Sailing and water sports is not big at all in Sperlonga, but there are a few fishing boats and some tour along the coast.

It's interesting to visit this port in the evening when the sun is not hot. It's not big, but there are a lot of yachts there. It's amazing to make pictures of it on the top of the mountains.

On a trip to a campsite just outside of Rome I decided to look up the best coastal resort between Rome and Naples on Google and found Sperlonga so I decided to book a hotel and take an overnight stay there. Well I wasn't disappointed, it was as described and more. Paradise. Beautiful village, fabulous clear blue water and fantastic hospitality.

The port in Sperlonga is small and quaint. There isn’t much to do or see in the port but it is located near some very lovely areas such as the Torre Truglia, old town and the beaches.
