Very disappointing management!
Jul 2019 • Couples
The instructions outside the place mention that the visit requires reservation and needs a minimum of 2 people. We made a reservation for the following day by talking to a lady entering the place and the next day we were told that there was no reservation and that the guide was not willing to do a tour only for two people.

Very disappointing!

Most amazing garden ever!
May 2019
We planned this months in advance, and made our reservation for one of the days we were to be in Sicily. We had seen the entrance to this amazing garden two years before, while traveling by bike, but saw that one needs a reservation to see it, so we reserved for the next time we came. It was SOOOO worth it! The tour by Ancilla was thorough, informative, warm, and heartfelt! She told us the whole history of how the original owner came in the 1950s, saw the beauty of the quarries, and little by little, over the ensuing decades, created a shangri la that she was told would be impossible. The tour was in Italian, and we did our best to understand as much as possible. There are English tours as well, later in the season, so we recommend that English speakers (with little or no Italian) come when the "English" season begins. But even with no understanding, the visual and aural experience is not to be missed.

Just incredible

When you look at this from above you just don't realise for a moment what you are looking at - a magical garden created out of a space cleared to build residents dwellings from the natural rock of Favignana - truly beautiful!

Not worth either the 2.5 hours nor the 20 euros
Sep 2017 • Friends
Save your time and money.

The idea is interesting: sunken gardens in dug out caves but the garden is a cacophony of plants poorly arranged and the grounds are a mess. And you can see the same concept (admitedly not as well) elsewhere on the island.

2.5 hours is way too long: tour should have lasted no more than 30 mins but then they would have a hard time charging 20 euros.

Stay away and spend the time in the sun!

Must See
Sep 2016 • Couples
You have to book to see these gardens and can't just turn up. We went after spending the best part of a day on the Cala Rosa so it was a welcome contrast to be surrounded by green and smell freshly scented air. The gardens are unique and extensive and the tour lasts a couple of hours and is in Italian. Luckily for me my wonderful Italian girlfriend translated for me. The gardens are mostly subterranean and are the product of the passion and skill of the owner and like nothing I've seen before and at the same time reminiscent of ancient ruins. They are set in a disused Tufo Quarry so you learn about the history of this craft too. I felt privileged to experience what is a lifetimes work and would recommend a visit to anyone who appreciates gardens.

a place to visit! it can't be missed!

Absolutely jenial, magnific, beautiful, for all tastes and ages, a must do! I was particularly impressed by the different types of hybiscus flowers but the ammount of specias of plants is huge, some of them are rare, some are stunning to see and the place were they grow is so impressive, especially for a garden. Unique!!!

Extraordinary garden

This is an amazing garden and makes an excellent excursion by bicycle from town. It is really fascinating to wander around the converted quarry spaces, although we all agreed that the tour was a bit long.

Impressive property
Aug 2014 • Friends
This "secrete" garden is full of charm, history and surprises. I was on a guided tour with a small group and we all marveled at the beauty and originality of the property. One can easily tell that much effort has been put in by the owner to make the place what it is today.
The story behind the garden is indeed fascinating! Even more fascinating is how well maintained the wide variety of plants are. If you visit, it will be extremely beneficial to listen to the guide because she provides very valuable information, she helps put the beauty of the property into context and one can appreciate it even more.
Make sure to hear comfortable shoes because t is a bit of a hike going down into the caves.

AN UNEXPECTED EXPERIENCE
Aug 2013 • Couples
It is not known at all, but hidden in the centre of the Island of Favignana there is a jewel to be discovered! At few kilometres from the central port by bicicle, it is possible to reserve a fantastic visit of 2 hours and a half to a personal residence whose wonderful gardens include the old stone caves where quarriers have extracted all the stones with which the houses of the island have been built for centuries. The lady who has been creating this marvellous jewel is a splendid person full of charm and charisma. The guide who tours the whole property explains everything about the exotic gardens created by the owner at the bottom of the caves. The island is flat and without trees because of the strong winds, so the only place where trees can grow is at the bottom of the caves, where the lady has been collecting plants from all over the world, who all found an incredible habitat, protected from the wind! It is really an unexpected experience and it deserves to be advertised, because until now most of the tourists visiting the Island were not even aware of its existence!!
