We wanted to take canoe trip along the Dordogne but due to high flood levels it was impossible so we took a lovely 55 minute trip along the Dordogne on a traditional boat known as a gabarres. Ticket boxes inside the parking bays at La...More

Plying the river between La Roque Gageac and Beynac, these imitation sailing barges ( they are motorised) are an easy, comfortable way of seeing one of the most impressive parts of the Valley of the Dordogne. If you like a running commentary (usually in French...More

We took an afternoon boat ride with friends. Our head sets worked well for the English tour. The French tour was given without headsets and was a bit distracting. The weather turned out to be perfect to be on the river. We got a good...More

Quite simply a comfortable ride in an exciting boat journey (60 minutes) that celebrates the days of river trade on the Dordogne. An amusing and well timed audio in English added to the pleasure. Good value too.

Twenty years ago I canoed 20 km down the fabulous Dordogne through this riverside town. Now taking a boat trip seemed easier not as enjoyable however Arrive early. We were on boat for 10 o’clock and there were plenty of spaces so you were able...More

It is a nice leisurely way to see the main historical towns or landmarks along the run. Our girls of 6 and ten did find it a little boring, but generally more suited to adults.

A gentle trip up and down part of the Dordogne river for about an hour. Live French commentary but headsets provided for an English version. Nice views and quite relaxing. Only 10 euros pp.

beautiful way to see this amazing coastline, if you don't fancy doing a canoe trip. Audio explanation and story of the river, taking in the history.

There is much to see in La Roque and much of it involves walking up steep streets. For a less strenous tour I recommend a river tour. The tour takes an hour in an open Dordogne style river boat. The boats are spacious and have...More

This is that kind of tour you ask ourself if it is worth it or not. It is a short one (one hour) that gives you a different perspective of the Dordogne river and it's surroundings. You will hear about the history of the city...More

We found Les Gabarres after seeing the boats from Chateau Castelnaud. They give you a great view of the Chateau, but much more. La Roque Gageac is a fantastic little town with a great history. The guide on the boat (or audioguide if you speak...More

We bought tickets at the booth adjacent to the pier. If it is peak season suggest you buy tickets for a later boat and have a coffee nearby. That way you can come back early enough to pick a seat near the front

Sorry, misspelled the boat name. Meant Gabarres Caminade. Where does one buy tickets in advance?

No, there are no stops scheduled along the route. Most of the river journey is along undeveloped river banks so I would imagine the possibility for stops would be difficult.
